Sadly, mergers usually end up being a hostile takeover.

Just in case you can't watch the video...words!

Well, you can stake that claim
Good work is the key to good fortune
    Winners take that praise
    Losers seldom take that blame

If they don't take that game
And sometimes the winner takes nothing
    We draw our own designs
But fortune has to make that frame

We go out in the world and take our chances
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That's the way that Lady Luck dances
    Roll the bones
    Roll the bones

    Why are we here?
    Because we're here
    Roll the bones
    Roll the bones

    Why does it happen?
    Because it happens
    Roll the bones
    Roll the bones

    Faith is cold as ice
Why are little ones born only to suffer
    For the want of immunity
    Or a bowl of rice?

Well, who would hold a price
On the heads of the innocent children
    If there's some immortal power
    To control the dice?

We come into the world and take our chances
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That's the way that lady luck dances
    Roll the bones
    Roll the bones

    Why are we here?
    Because we're here
    Roll the bones
    Roll the bones

    Why does it happen?
    Because it happens
    Roll the bones
    Roll the bones

    Why are we here?
    Because we're here
    Roll the bones
    Roll the bones

    Why does it happen?
    Jack, relax
    Get busy with the facts
    No zodiacs or almanacs
    No maniacs in polyester slacks

    Just the facts
    Gonna kick some gluteus max
    It's a parallax, you dig?
    You move around

The small gets big, it's a rig
    It's action, reaction
    Random interaction
    So who's afraid
    Of a little abstraction?

    Can't get no satisfaction
    From the facts?
    You better run, homeboy
    A fact's a fact
    From Nome to Rome, boy

What's the deal? Spin the wheel
If the dice are hot, take a shot
Play your cards, show us what you got
    What you're holding

    If the cards are cold
    Don't go folding
    Lady Luck is golden
She favors the bold, that's cold

    Stop throwing stones
The night has a thousand saxophones
So get out there and rock
    And roll the bones

    Get busy
    Roll the bones
    Why are we here?
    Because we're here
    Roll the bones
    Roll the bones

    Why does it happen?
    Because it happens
    Roll the bones
    Roll the bones

    Why are we here?
    Because we're here
    Roll the bones
    Roll the bones

    Why does it happen?
    Because it happens
    Roll the bones
    Roll the bones

    Why does it happen?
    Because it happens
    Roll the bones
    Roll the bones

    I like Rush. I do.

    I don’t get this, though:

    “If there's some immortal power
    To control the dice?”

If that’s it, then we’re puppets suffering under a tyrant creator. I prefer to think the suffering comes from actions we take through free will within a physical realm subject to natural entropy.

I had a discussion with my eldest daughter about this...today!

Why were we created to interact with one another if we couldn't get along?

Is the creator just sitting back and laughing?

    Deep stuff! lol

Good question. I prefer to think of it as the question being posed to the listener, and it's up to the listener what they believe in.

    Yeah.
Rush is awesome for sure. But since we are doing existential lyrics . . .

    Angels on the sideline
    Puzzled and amused
Why did Father give these humans free will?
    Now they're all confused
Don't these talking monkeys know that
Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly monkeys
Where there's one, you're bound to divide it
    Right in two
    Angels on the sideline
    Baffled and confused
Father blessed them all with reason
And this is what they choose?
Monkey killing, monkey killing, monkey over
    Pieces of the ground
    Silly monkeys
Give them thumbs, they forge a blade
And where there's one, they're bound to divide it
    Right in two
    Right in two
Monkey killing, monkey killing monkey over
    Pieces of the ground
    Silly monkeys
Give them thumbs, they make a club
    To beat their brother down
How they've survived so misguided is a mystery
Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
To lift an eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Fight till they die over sun, over sky
They fight till they die over sea, over air
They fight till they die over blood, over love
They fight till they die over words, polarizing
    Angels on the sideline again
Benched along with patience and reason
    Angels on the sideline again
Wondering where this tug of war will end
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
Gotta divide it all right in two
    Right in two
    Right in two

I wouldn't go so far as to say I hate mine. It's not very fulfilling but it pays the bills and I'm not busting my butt on the shop floor anymore either. I can retire with a 50% pension in about 8 years at 60 years old if I want. The worst part of it is the commute into NYC every day. Even though I'm here by 6am and leave by 2pm there's a surprising number of maniacs already on the road that early. If I can afford to go at 60 and do something I enjoy more and closer to home I'd really consider it. Maybe even just do side work in the shop I hope to have built out back by then.

I'm with you...I've never liked my job but I have alot of time off and its allowed me to pay off all my shit early. Been cramming as much as I can into 401k so the day I turn 62 I can walk.

Any younger folks starting a new job...put as much as you can into a retirement account as soon as you're eligible; you'll never miss it if you never see it.
And if there's a job you think you might enjoy but the pay is shit, take the job and make adjustments, its hard to go to work when you despise it.

I don't mind what I do and I'm very good at it, the nepotism BS and such is what blows. I can start tapping my pension (separate from 401K) at 55 yrs old and 20 yrs of service, I'm at 50 yrs old and 24 yrs respectively.

That said the 5 weeks vacation and insurance are huge for me, especially with aging family I need to be there for and that my wife makes a great actual paycheck but her insurance would be a backbreaker to purchase.

I wish more companies would offer unlimited vacation time. Maybe I should move to Spain. Anyone heard of their work hours?

It's a trap in most cases - I'm in that now. It's unlimited, as long as you take less than 3 weeks (and we get few holidays off compared to a lot of places). Plus it breeds a toxic culture of competitive non-vacationing in order to look good at review time.

My prior job was 3 weeks paid, another 12 days of holidays, and LWOP/temp remote and even borrowing against future accrual was on the menu if circumstances required (eg, fresh grad new hire with $3.72 in the bank needs to go home for two weeks for family emergency? We got you, homie!).

I don't like my job currently. It's a Mashup of various issues. (Piss poor management, no communication, and the fact that I'm just tired of doing it) but I don't currently have the luxury of leaving. In my area this is the best paying job I could hope for. Selling our house and moving would be required for a change. So, for the time being I bide my time and save all I can in an effort to make leaving this job a reality one way or another.

If things don't tank I should be a 401k millionaire by the time I'm 54. Learning about the market and finance in general is a good idea. They do a poor job of teaching stuff like that in high school. I wish I would have known more when I was young. Getting started at 20 when time is on your side will pay off big time down the road. And don't put too much into what CNBC and the like say, they'll give you a heart attack. If it all goes to zero, we're all going to have bigger problems to worry about.

Poorly if at all. Granted I've been out of high school about 35 years of course but...

I remember taking a college course showing what the age 22-32 versus 32-65 investing would yield at 9 pct a year average and that was at $2000 a year, the 22-32 was over 300K more I think.

I've been with my current job close to 18 years this coming February.

Started off working in the Records Department for 11-12 years, moved up to Conflict of Interest and now starting January 2024 was moved up to Accounting (Billing). 3 of the 4 women in that department are retiring at the end of this year.

Why I hate working here now?

Well, like someone mentioned a few pages back...its the leadership. I was recommended the position. These women think they have ultimate power over anyone that comes into this department and think the rules don't apply to them. It was a woman dominated department AND they've had people hired to train in each of their positions and guess what....they've each quit after a month. One person didn't even bother telling management that he wasn't coming back. They called and called and he never responded back. Just shows how toxic this department is.

The constant parading of my mistakes in front of everyone. The talk downs, and constant eavesdropping and looking at my every move. There was one instant where they went to lunch and all of them came back drunk and their response was "Sorry we lost our way back". How are you going to lose your way back when you've worked here for 30+ years. That was the last straw.

I've gone to HR multiple times with these issues and she would always take their side. Never attempted to mediate the issue which is her job.

So I involved an attorney. We all had a sit down and it just turned out to be a back and forth yelling contest. 5 against 1. I couldn't present my proof or call in anyone else that has witnessed these issues.

After all this, I still get the remarks that are towards me. Some other co workers congratulate me for touching the untouchable and some have said I have an X on my back from now on. Either way, I stood up for myself. Whether or not they're retiring, I wasn't going to let them treat me this way.

I've paid my dues to get as far as I have in this firm and I wont let anyone treat me this way.

If I were to leave, I think I'd want to do labor work. Construction or something I can learn a trait. I am done working at an office.

    Rant over.
