Anyone else have issues with CaliRaised sliders?

I have had two sets. First with a kickout and bed liner. Bought them used. It would chip and flake off on huge chunks. But I sold that pair, buyer didn’t care.
Next set I ordered direct with powder coating and no kickout. later on 8-12 months I noticed rust popping through the coating. They (the one in Los Angeles area) said they would pull them and re-coat the powder coat. And they had heard it from other customers. They were having them coated in the area I guess. But I have no desire nor time to get my ass down to LA.
So I thought about washing them with some de-iron and seeing if it’s just flecks on the surface. If not eventually I’ll strip them and rattle can em. They are off the truck now anyway.

 

You guys get salt or sand?? Must be nice. We graters two days after it stops…

I just have coastal air. Sand is everywhere, except on the road.

 

Also my shiny black trd exhaust tip, ain’t so shiny no more. It looks like it belongs on a rat rod.

 

When I was in HS the guys I ran with loved those WhiteCastle sliders - I hated them - I wanted a real CHEESE BURGER not some little dinky thing (you know - where's the beef) and you ended up just eating a bunch of tiny buns.

Damn, thanks that’s a pretty kind offer! Only on TacomaWorld are folks who you wish the world was like. I’m north of the I80 in the very top of Wyoming. I do hit Cheyenne every month or so which I believe catches part of I80. I also wouldn’t mind making a road trip to meet you sometime. Typical chinese junk and typical response. IF. They were made here AND powdercoatrd here they would have made a different response.

They had heard it from other customers..That’s interesting and again makes me wonder how many others, other than me have tried to leave an honest review on their website and they won’t allow it to post. I was one that fell into the glowing reviews on their website before purchasing. That’s my fault, I shoulda done better research instead of wanting to burn the dollars in my pocket.

 

I work for a company that manufacturers powder coated porch railing and fencing, all built to AAMA 2604 or 2605, certified PCI 4000. For any type of powder coating to give up the ghost that quickly, regardless of environment, is absolute garbage. I work in sales and not the QI/QC side of things. But I would 100% consider this a very thin application over an improperly cleaned/prepared surface.

 

This is all a bummer for ya. Caliraisedled has a shop here in Fort Worth that I’ve been to several times. They are definitely fabricating in that shop from what I can tell. <edit: looks like I’m wrong about them no being related> Just to be clear, there are two caliraised. One with the led in the name, one without. They are not related. Other than them way underestimating the demand for their cat shields and taking orders without it being clear they were still in manufacturing, they’ve treated me well as a customer. Never bought anything powder coated though.

They are related. Off-road is in the same building that Led was in before they moved to Texas, and off road sells the same products.

Do you know for a fact that their stuff is manufactured in China, or are you making the assumption that because of the issues it's substandard manufacturing and therefore must be manufactured in China?

They started out in California and moved their business, including manufacturing, to Forth Worth.

 

I live on the seacoast of NH, so pretty much the worst case scenario for rust.

I had a powder coated front skid plate on my 2nd Gen that eventually rusted, but it took a few years.

That experience taught me to:
1) stay on top of my annual frame spraying
2) Use aluminum for anything exposed (skids, bars, etc.)

If aluminum isn’t available, I’d coat the steel part using something I could maintain on my own and inspect it frequently.

From my experience, rust will start from even a minor defect in the coating (rock chip, etc.) then spread under the coating until it just flakes off in big chunks if you don’t repair it.

 

I spoke to them last week because it’s been a month without the catshields being delivered. I got confused and emailed the wrong company. They have different owners but are like sister companies is what I was told. Still waiting on my cat shields…

 

This can happen if the powder coat goes over oxidation. Ideally you sand blast the sliders first, then zinc primer, then powdercoat. It’s much more expensive, but results in much more corrosion resistance.

I’m not impressed with CaliRaised. I had their roof rack and the design was straight-up flawed. Rather than using carriage bolts to attach the crossbars to the roof struts, they used nuts and bolts, which were impossible to adjust after the fact. I swapped to carriage bolts and it worked so much better.

Not to mention all the hardware rusted in a single Colorado summer. I am not impressed.

When I was about 20 I ate an entire box of white castle sliders as part of a challenge with some friends. I think it was 20 or 24 in the box. I don't know what they put in those but I just about shit myself a couple hours later.

 

Americans make some garbage (actually lots of it literally and figuratively) too…..

“highest quality materials and state of the art equipment” is like a pizzeria saying “voted best pizza slice #1”. Totally worthless advertising jargon.
