I love mine, but I’m old and fat so I really needed it to get into the bed! Plus I got it off Craigslist for $50.

Was it off a second gen? I took the one off of my 15 when I bought it. Just wondering if it would work for a 3rd gen to sell it.

The seller listed it as off a Gen 3.

I love my step! That was one of the first mods I did to my truck. I’m just not that flexible anymore and if I have to leave the tailgate down it really makes it easier to get in or out of the bed.

How does it install? Are the holes already in the frame for mounting?

Yes they are. On the frame. I tack welded the threads once installed to make it a bit more difficult for anyone that will attempt to take it.

If you look up "AMP Research" bed step - you will find the same step. I am pretty sure they manufacture the one Toyota dealers sell. I bought my Toyota step used, so saved a few dollars. Heavy duty , and well engineered. I am an old guy also - so it is very helpful in getting up and out of the bed. I had the factory fold out tailgate steps with stripper pole in an F150. It was a great addition because the F150 bed is even a little higher to access.

When I saw the cost for those things I went for option number 2
I got a $13 Walmart step ladder. Works great for when I need it.
I can keep it in the garage when not needed.
It does not take up any bed space when I do.

I have it on mine. Works great with the tail gate down. I don't think I've ever used it with the tailgate up.

@LarsonFan , have you purchased this step?

I’d be willing to help you out with some of the cost. This is a hell of a deal from post #27 if it still is current. Perhaps you can try a price match at your dealer and save on shipping?

I host a FB page that has world champions and world record holders as members. I feel blessed to have such a crazy strong group of builders/competitors from all over the planet. One of those world champions sent me a brand new OEM 3120xp cylinder, as I was in need of one. They appreciate the builds and tricks I share. Well, alls I had to do was pay for shipping. $17.89

I’ve been wanting to pay it forward and this post reappeared. I don’t usually do this in public, but I’m hoping another member or two step up for a fellow Taco hermano in need and possibly get it for you. I do agree with post #10 however, but I also know what’s it’s like to just make it.

Just throwing it out there, and not even sure if this is mod friendly.

I got lucky and got a second hand one from a guy that just bought his Tacoma and didn't want it. It comes in super handy when getting up and down to open up my RTT. Negotiated and paid $90. Worth it. Heck yes!

I have added iStep running boards, a Bestop rear mounted TrekStep, a BakFlip MX4, a Pop N Lock Power Tailgate Actuator, Chrome tailgate insert letters and MattGekeo LEDs
I bought one online last June just after I bought my truck, I am a great grandpa and almost fell out of the truck bed one day. I ordered it that night, paid about $180 shipped and also got the BacFlip MX4 tonneau cover at the same time ($800). Took about 10/15 minutes to put on the bed step and about an hour to put on the cover, I love them both.
