Was swapping my bumper caps and noticed the bottom of my d*mn trailer hitch is rusting already, painting is flaking right off, truck is less than a month old and 3k miles, a bit concerning.

Mine did the same thing within a year or two. The hitch is different steel and painted differently I think. I hit it with a 3M wheel on a drill and then brake clean/flat black paint/fluid film.

Chances are there was paint scraped off that part, bare metal rusts up fast.

Mine has some too. Going to clean it up and paint. Thinking I should be good to go after I do that.

I had the same thing starting on a few areas on mine within 1000 miles or so. Most of the welds on the frame where crossmembers and suspension brackets attached. Just not enough paint on them from the factory. I bought a few spray cans of POR-15 top coat and crawled under and hit those areas with a coat or two. Worked great and matched factory finish on the frame.

That’s crazy. Something similar happened to me. I bought my truck and by the time I got home it had dirt on it! I immediately coated the truck with a couple layers of soap. Disaster averted.

I find that hard to believe, how would I have scraped the hitch on a one month old truck with 3k miles that has never seen anything besides pavement? You can clearly see the paint flaking and coming off, crummy factory work. This will probably be my last Toyota, my mom's JLU which is an FCA product, is a year old and seen a Chicago winter and has less rust underneath.

Not dirt, tool. Definately rust and flaking paint. JFC.

I knew going in after having a few of them but didnt expect my one month old one to be rusting and flaking paint already.

It only gets worse overtime. Not sure where you live but mine after the first winter looked like a 3 year old truck. I undercoated the entire underside and spray the frame out all the time. Especially in the winter.

Just had my door sill repainted because the paint was bubbling up and rusting. I even have the Toyota door sill protectors on it Very disappointing

Yep, just moved back home to IL, I fluid film usually every fall in prep for winter when I was stationed in NJ. I'm too the point where I just am going to pay it off and trade it in, a one month old truck shouldnt have a paint flaking rusty tow hitch and this is just one of the quality issues I've noticed with my 3rd gen, I hate being that guy but not the Toyota I grew up with.

You may not of been you, but when loading and unloading the truck off the transport its very easy to do it.

Lol, touché. I remember being super diligent with my 2011 and still finding rust constantly.

Yea definitely trade it in and let someone who appreciates the truck have it. Good call.

I could see that, scrapping as the angle off the ramp is a bit high. Just crummy since I baby my trucks.

You’re posts constantly lack anything of substance besides some smart a** remark. As you name alludes too, go pound “puddin” dude.
