Thank you Captain Obvious, really? I didn't realize that's how that works. JFC. Not a rock impact, more likely a scrape from delivery / offloading from the truck.

I wouldn’t bet on that. Toyota knew the first gens had rust problems and did nothing to fix that with the second gen all the way through it’s lifespan. I doubt they did anything different for the third gen.

    I mean. It’s a hitch tho. Lol.
You can drop it to the bottom of the Atlantic and it’ll still take 100 years for it to rust enough to ruin its integrity. Touch up paint is maintenance

Bahaha, okay bud. Good one, so simple, I too like to make assumptions and half a**'d insults about people I have never met or know anything about as well.

Agreed, it'll take awhile to lose its integrity, just a bit unsightly and I have no issues having to address it, did on all my other Tacos, just more frustrated with the fact its on a new truck so early in its life and curious if anyone else ran into this issue so soon.

Oh definitely worse. Every part of the suspension was rusting and the frame had rust on every joint and weld. To top it off it had the oil based coating that you can’t just paint over without making a mess. It’s pretty typical for trucks around my area so it didn’t bother me. My 08 Chevy had no coating left anywhere on the frame, was just all surface rust but it just kinda stayed like that and never got any worse even at 150k miles. I’d still buy another one in a heartbeat if I needed a half ton.

    Trailer hitch rusting. Trade it.

This just shows how ignorant some of you are. Do me a favor... go slide a hitch into that receiver, hook up the safety chains, plug in the lights and pull a trailer. Then unhook it and take a look because it will be scratched to hell. That's what happens when you actually USE something. That was never built to be pretty it was built to work. I touch mine up with black paint every now and then.

Generalization, my comment on trading in was to the build quality this was just one thing to add to that. And yes obviously bare metal will rust, not my first rodeo, did you read any of my posts or that I've had quite a few of these trucks and HAVE USED THEM as you ignorantly tried to point out / make an assumption about.

Sure maybe now, but if not addressed it'll get worse, but get the point.

You really think it will rust away ? Put a sacrificial anode in somewhere then.
Man what happens when you get a serious problem ?

Ahh jumping on the assumption bus I see. Trust me I've diagnosed / addressed and repaired far worse issues on my trucks, bikes and cars over the years, so you can take that snide presumptive comment and shove it.

I don't think it will rust away, where have you lived and how many Tacomas have you owned, it wont take more than a few good winters with no good preventative maintainence (fluid film, touch up, under cleaning, etc.) before that tow hitch would present rust pretty much all over, sure surface rust and the hitch itself would still have its integrity but certainly noticable.

Sorry man, I just hate comments like those sometimes. I get what your saying, just frustrated finding this on a new truck so soon and curious if others had experienced the same.

So why even post about a part that is going to be scratched up if you use it. Designed to be used and beat on even.
