We're talking about rust on a fairly thick piece of steel.I'm not worried about the structural integrity becoming compromised. I've had it and can't say i'm too concerned about it, but I could see how it would make someone's OCD flair a little.

Not silly from my standpoint and others who agreed and had the same issue, certainly not "everyone" and only for the few who want to act like they know more than everyone else, make some snide comment or assumptions based on a post / few words taken out of context, hence the TW troll post I made earlier.

Exactly. Again, not the end of the world or a big deal, just frustrating with the age of the truck and a few other percieved build quality issues I've seen / had.

Maybe it comes from experience. My first new Toyota was in 1984. I have owned many vehicles since then and some have been good, some bad, some with issues and some without. I pulled a trailer with my truck the first week and of course the receiver got skinned up. I always have a spray can of gloss black and will just hold a piece of cardboard up to catch the overspray. I do it just to cover up bare metal.

I'll admit I rarely use my trailer and I've had the rust inside the hitch but never outside and so soon in, I'll rattle can it this weekend, and again I get it, not a big deal in grand scheme, just a bit frustrating as its never been used and the truck so new, shouldnt have to be doing it already in my opinion. Posted because curious if others were having premature or what I felt was premature rust already in that area. Oh well. I will say my Dad's Raptor has some decent surface rust on the hitch but he uses it.

Every piece of high iron content metal underneath will rust easy. Plus paint does not like to stick to it as well. U joints, rotors, calipers, drums, hitch and leaf springs are a few of those components. Unless you live in the desert it is inevitable.

Agreed, grew up a midwest kid, and I get why some don't bother and just trade in every few years up here in the salt belt, just my OCD kicking in.

If it’s powder coated steel it doesn’t last long, something about not sticking to steel very well. I’d wire brush any rusty spots then spray with flat spray paint every year or two.

Just meant the powder coat, the steel will last a lifetime if not exposed to salt.

Bahaha, salt here in the midwest? Nah, lol. I just want to clean it up before I hit the underside with FF in the fall as part of my routine. Agreed, not worried about the integrity of the hitch, just the flakey paint and ugly a** rust.

Salt does suck and Tacomas seem to absorb it like a sponge.

Certainly don't think I was a "puss" and I totally agree with that logic that its an opinion based community. Pretty sure I called some people out on their nonsense and threw the "dart" right back.

Something that will happen is that if you leave the receiver in the hitch over a period of time it will rust
to the hitch inside the receiver hole.

The solution is to buy a stainless steel receiver is what I did after my metal receiver rusted to the hitch.
