While I agree a little rust on a component like a hitch or something shouldn’t be a huge cause for panic. However we are talking about Tacoma’s here. While lots of people are gonna defend them and down play any rust issues; how many poor bastards had complete frames rot out or even break in half because of Rust. Ironic thing about it is it all started as some type of small surface rust, then it just spiraled out of control. It’s almost ironic as how everyone praises Tacoma’s for QDR, but they are known for frame rot issues. I’m. It even sure how that’s possible. Yes they can run for a long time, but what good is that when you can no longer drive it because the truck is unsafe due to a rotted frame?

I live in Colorado, one water crossing or good rain and it will still rust. That’s the only place I had rust issues because the receiver bangs around in the hitch wearing the paint off

OP, i understand its a new truck and you're sensitive to this kind of shit...

But seriously forget it, not worth your time honestly to even post about.

Stop being a puss puss, put more scratches underneath so you can take pics of them and make more dumb ass posts. Love you xoxo

Don't get me wrong, I get surface rust from water crossings as well. The difference is it takes 20 years or more for it to be a problem. I grew up in Minnesota and know how fast salt can do its damage.

I don't know, the 2 years I was stationed there the constant rock chips were just as bad as chasing rust in the salt belt.

I don't get where this "puss", "whining" assumption is coming from, I've had 8 Tacomas, I am familar with rust, scratches, squeeky leaf springs, failing diff seals, etc. I only posted because I was curious if anyone else had seen rust so soon, the truck is a month old, just seemed out of place to me, I'm certainly not bent out of shape about it sure it sucks, but nothing I can't address on a nice weather weekend. I'm no stranger to working on my damn truck people, I've probably done more wrenching than quite a few on here over the years. Love you too.

Yes. Mine was never touched in any way shape or form. Used a dremel and small wire wheel. Wiped off with a solvent and then used rustoleum rust reformer. Then 2 coats of rustoleum farm implement paint. Use some garbage bags and painters tape to mask. Waited 2 weeks for paint to dry well and the. Sprayed with fluid film and wiped off leaving thin coat.
