So after months of searches and waitlist etc. finally found the truck I wanted. anyways the truck only have 600miles, and yesterday trying to pull the truck out of the driveway, the truck just won't drive. it goes in gear no problem, the motor turn over and runs ok it seems, but seems like the clutch won't engage to allow the transmission to move the wheels at all.

anyways ended up having to tow it to the nearest dealership and now it's in their hands.

The shitty part about all this is, we are just about to start our road trip, and have all the travels/hotels booked, and now they are saying it might take a few days if not weeks to get it sorted.

How is it a brand new so call top of the line product could get pass quality quality assurance and be delivered to a customer in this form?

Anyways been on the phone for the last 2 days calling dealerships and towing co. and Toyota.. what a pain!

If you guys have any recommendations or suggestions please fire away!

    Cheers,

    J.

Sorry to hear that happened, the clutch not engaging should have never got past quality control.

Maybe ask for them to give you an extended warranty on the house for your peace of mind.

He probably should get the warrantee on the truck instead.

I can only say that in the really cold mornings, mine resists going into reverse easily. However, that is the first thing I do when backing out of my driveway. After that its fine. I have not had any issues with the clutch engaging.

    Good Luck.

OP, you must mean it won't engage... If you started it, it had to disengage, right..??

That is really weird... Must be bad linkage or cable...whatever it uses...

THe Automatics have had no issues at all....! hehe;)

Ask them to cover the cost of a rental for your upcoming trip, if they can't resolve the issue beforehand. You're under warranty and it sounds like a manufacturer defect, so I don't see why they'd argue. I mean, they probably will, but if you're adamant I'm sure they'll accommodate you.

I got my (used, obviously) '04 from a Toyota dealership out here several months ago, came with a 30 day bumper to bumper warranty. Day 27 rolls around and I get a CEL, so I take it in...only the dealership is 4 hours away and they want to keep it for a couple days. After some back and forth, I got them to agree to give me a rental for that time period.

I'd take a loaner and head out on that road trip. It will be ready when you get back.

I had that issue on my earlier manual trucks, most of the time you just needed to pump the clutch twice and it would shift into reverse. Might be a manual thing because I also have to do it with my current M/T Mazda.

I'll try that. However, it doesn't resist later in the day when it is warmer outside. Still, I'll give it a try.

Didn't have the problem everytime but when it just didn't feel like going into reverse, the double pump of the clutch always does the trick for me.

    probably true.

i'm at about 700 miles on mine and it's been perfect, just a little stiff getting into R on a cold morning like mentioned above.

good luck, OP, and get a case with Toyota opened so you get customer-appreciating coverage including a rental and maybe more.

That sucks! Like others have said, make Toyota give you a loaner for your trip and let them figure things out. They will make it right.

Are the dealerships around me the only one that give service loaners?! Heck they usually give me a truck that is top of the line. Better/more amenities.

Sucks OP! Hope you get it all figured out.

In my experience it depends on the dealership. The one I go to locally by me is much better about that kind of thing, the one I bought my truck from in San Diego wasn't.

My dealer is super cool with me about loaners, even on a rare occasion of just want an oil change. They just have me drop my truck off in the afternoon and let me take a loaner home overnight and come back the next day!
