Couldn't leave without buying something, haha. Cook Bros MTB Crankarm Set, S&M Handle Bars, Profile Euro BB Set & P.K. Frame.

But drummed up some more wheel building business.

Those Trick Stars, especially the second one (Invasion) with the Woody brakes. Please provide towels to clean up the mess I just made out of my pants

This is sweet. I’ve contemplated selling my Profile Champ frame because the market for this stuff is crazy. However, I always come back to not being able to part with that awesome part of my childhood.

I've seen the price of most stuff at least double..at least. I'd have never been able to build my 85 Hutch Wind Styler I did last year if I didn't have a good bit of the parts already from long ago

Wanted to invite all the old school bmx'n Tacoma drivin' friends here at Tacoma World to this show I'm organizing in the Los Angeles area on June 4th.

    BMXsociety_2022_Poster_4_18_update.jpg

Well, it is BMX Show season for sure, and the BMX Society show is going to be incredible this year.

We are honoring Bob Osborn this year with the BMX Society Life Time Achievement Award and it will be presented to him at the start-studded Bob Osborn Symposium that will be Saturday evening, on June 4th. Times and other details to be announced.

But first!... Earlier that same day:

From 9am to 3pm on Saturday, June 4th... outside in the parking lot of the Carson Event Center, we will have the legendary BMX Society Bike Show. The whole world turns out for this one, so come be a part of it. You'll likely bump into your favorite old school legends and we'll have the guest of honor, Bob Osborn on hand as well. Come out and see a sampling of the finest examples of Old School BMX bikes, components and memorabilia in collector hands. People come from literally all over the world to be a part of the deepest old school BMX experience you can find... a full immersion into BMX culture. We're gonna have a blast.

It's going to be "Bob-a-Palooza"! It's going to be an incredible stroll through BMX history and BMX journalism, told by the people who lived it. You won't want to miss it.

Yeah, it's worth a road trip :) People are coming from other countries! I'm driving 13 hours myself. It'll be worth the effort. :) There will hopefully be video, of some sort... probably not live stream though. More likely to be clips uploaded after the event. We'll see... various scenarios are possible.

I still ride BMX a few times a week. Matter of fact I just got back from my local skatepark. I'm not on an old school rig.... most modern bmx bikes make riding a lot easier, and at my age I'll take whatever advantage I can get. My first real bmx bike was an 87 haro sport, I couldn't imagine trying to muscle that thing around today , I'd imagine that thing was 30+lbs... makes you realize how dudes like Bob Haro, Dave Vanderspek, and RL Osbourne really paved the road to modern day freestyle (aka street riding ) and muscled some heavy rigs around.

Skyway Mags, one piece cranks, 30 lb bike and still getting RAD with a 4ft bunnyhop tabletop.

Miss the 80s bmx scene. Freestyle was so new and popular. So many kids were into bmx. I'm glad I grew up in that era.... now with you tube, facebook, Twitter, etc.content is out there all the time for free and theres so much crap out there kids all seem to have ADD... there's just too much available. Back in the day I used to wait for bmx plus and read it cover to cover, now kids dont have to wait and anticipate anything.. it's kinda sad.

My local skatepark is filled with skaters who are 40-50, bmx riders who are late 20s to 50. Unless one of the old heads brings his son/daughter --- you rarely see kids.... its depressing in a way. Maybe it's just my timing.. I go mid evening generally.

We would have killed to have a ramp park at our disposal when we were 12 through our teens. Now kids could care less.... amazing

Now imagine the 40 pound tanks in the 1990s. Many have wondered what someone like Mirra could have done with even a 30 pounder like the Sport.

Lol... rode those too... I never had a 40 lb tank, but I did have a 2 peg Holmes with pitchforks, 185s, 45T sprocket, slam bars, 48s, and a long seatpost for learning barspins. Every thing on the bike was beefy and thick. Prolly came in low to mid 30s and that's about the time when I was riding some bigger stuff. I always wonder the same thing..... what if I had a modern BMX like I have now back then when I was 15 or 16? My bike now probably weighs less than 25 lbs. Its smooth, tight, stable, nimble, and light. It is also strong. When I huck it some nights and the thing goes bouncing halfway across the park nothing breaks, bends, or cracks.

I rode an S&M Warpig from '99-'02 before moving on to lighter bikes. Indestructible, but unwieldy.

Wow. The Troy McMurray special.... that frame looks like it weighs 9lbs alone.

8.25 pounds, if I remember right. Short, too, at 19.75". In retrospect, I should have gotten a Holmes or Bennett. Been riding 21" ever since.

I'll guess my 86 Schwinn Predator Freeform EX and 85 Hutch Wind Styler are 25-30 pounds. My 2001 Haro Mirra IDK but I bet 35 easy, close to 40 wouldn't shock me.

yep...all we had were some culverts and then anything that we built out of scrap wood...it was Central Ohio in the 70's and 80's...about as far away from a "BMX scene" as you could get
