For those on a loan, are you waiting until it's paid off to start modding your truck? Or are you doing it regardless? What are your reasons for either choice?

I am trying to be patient and pay off the loan as fast as I can before I start modding, other than the shell i got shortly after I bought the truck...oh and Weathertech floor mats, but that's it!

I waited till the day I payed my truck off to actually do anything to it. I had already purchased a lift and a light bar for the grill. First weekend the truck was mine the lift went on and the light bar was in place.

I only do the simple functional ones like floor mats, bed mat, window deflector ect. After stock parts and tires wear out, it's open season. I keep my trucks a long time so every substantial mod I do later on it make me feel like I have a new truck again.

Maybe a dumb question, but is the TRD off road suspension really that bad? I mean for someone who uses their truck as a DD and does minimal offroading, fireroads, camping, etc...

Or are you referring to the leaf pack?

welll technically i waited to pay it off to mod it..... but it was paid off before it left the dealer lot so does that count?

I did tell myself no big mods (suspension etc) before the 3yr/36k bumper to bumper.... ya that didnt last.

    probably the leaf pack.

I'm waiting for the 36/36 warranty to end before any big mods.

yeah my 2013 TRD OR came with the 2+1 leaf pack like yours.... sat level from the factory, sagged like a bitch with just 300 lbs in the back.... bitched n moaned, driveline vibe TSB came out i demanded the 3+1 leaf pack be put in, they did, did an AAL and its much better now.

FYI Trucks manufactured november 2014+ all have the 3+1 leaf packs (6 lug tacomas) regardless of model or configuration

One can never have too many light bars.
I plan on adding a 3 inch lift with 33's the same week I pay it off. Along with a bunch of unnecessary stuff.

I waited till mine was paid off except the window vents and weathertech mats. By that time I was well past the 36k miles mark too. Not a bad idea financially

    All good points...

And dont get me wrong, I'm not really a fan of the tires, but I can't justify replacing them until they really need to be replaced. Then I'll get something a little better

I like to make my vehicles more enjoyable regardless of owing money on them or not. The way I swap vehicles I'd never be able to mod any of them. I've pretty much factored in a car payment into my monthly expenses for the rest of my life.

Dude, you need to set your standards higher. You should plan on making enough $ to be able to pay CASH in the future!

I have better things to spend liquid on. My money can sit in the bank and make more interest than my loan is costing me, but you should be proud that you have an 8 year old depreciating asset paid off. :cookiemonster: Maybe next time you should save MORE and buy a newer 4wd? :notsure:

Nope, supercharger install starts Monday. Still stays under warranty, so not sure that counts...
