This is my 3rd Tacoma with Reverse there, never accidentally went to Reverse, too much resistance to pass thru.

Hah! Both of them tend to aggravate my hip, but I keep at it.

The first 3rd gen (and Taco for that matter) that I test drove was a MT. Having a manual was why I even considered looking at them.

Man was I disappointed. Everything felt rubbery to me, not much mechanical feel at all. It may have been in my head but it also felt like the computer was trying to assist with throttle. I wanted to like it but just couldn't see myself living with it.

Got the At because it seemed to drive great during test drives. Soon after buying the computer learned how to shift in full-retard mode. 35k miles and 15k in mods later, I seriously regret not getting the MT.

Stone age was cleaner. Unlike all those surreal zobie shows and movies where electricity is still flowing, there will be a lot of poisons leftover from power plants alone.

I bought my 2017 DCSB OFFROAD MT to replace my 1985 SR5 EFI. The 85 shifted great and was great off road, point and go, and I sure do miss the manual transfer case. Do I miss the lack of power, small cab, having to yell at your passenger to be heard on the highway and the bone rattling ride, hell no! Also, it only got 18 mpg. I think this transmission shifts smooth. Don't care for where reverse is or that it is so tall. But overall the package is great. Heated seats, 4 doors, cruise control, bed step, gps, etc. I do feel it is more of a car with truck capabilities, but would never want to go back. I think with most things there is buyers remorse, just try to live with it. Rarely is anything perfect.

Oh freaking wow I'm still having a hard time trying not to laugh so hard that I fall out of my chair when I open a thread like this..... since August this year 2018 when I purchased my Manual Transmission drive Tacoma I have towed a trailer multiple times and have to back it up hill to my RV pad location every time No issues there and I have towed my boat all over Utah and gone to Idaho twice with it and Wyoming once No problem! yeah the Millage on Gas dropped down to a shocking 15 to 17 on the Wyoming trip but that was expected. So Yes I do like my MT and Have No regrets with it. probably the only thing I might do is the Clutch accumulator delete mod because I drove one that the mod has been done on and kinda like the "feel" of it. and here is a picture of the Boat that I tow.

Roughly 8,300 on the markets in AT, and 360 in MT on the market for current year within a 1000 mile radius of me*. Factor in the trim / cab options that allow for MT and I'd say that number is not shocking and sustainable.

There's only 300 limited and 150 pros. Component wise how much more free those than a different transmission setup mfg cost wise?

I did a quick search on Cars.com and it shows 693 Manuals available. My Dealer explained the way Toyota builds them to me when I ordered my truck, once every 3 months they build enough for what they believe will last until the next build cycle so we have no idea where we are in that schedule as we can be nearing the end of the supply before they build again.

It makes perfect sense why they put it there. Back out of a parking spot, then it's one click over to first. I had a car with the Reverse by 6th gear. Always thought that was stupid.

I like it and I don't at the same time. I agree a bit with @ShirtTucker , although I never went to R by accident. I have left it Reverse, jumped in, and tried to pull away forward a few times since it feels like 1st gear. Once, I lightly tapped a parking bollard. No damage.

IMHO, in my perfect world, reverse would be doglegged down by 2nd? 6th would be taller and Reverse would be wayyyy lower.

In the end, it is a minor thing, and I can continue on in this imperfect world. :D
