If you go up to 265/75r16 tires it'll be accurate

You are right but it makes the numbers look better on the dash and I agree it's something that is in Toyota's favor and needs fixed .

Shoot, so the trip distance/odometer data is compromised? I was willing to look the other way about the incorrect mph, but this is a bit more damaging for sure.

That's all correct, it's just the speedo

Not cool, but playing with the numbers in Excel doesnt seem incredibly significant in the long run. If 75mph vs. 72mph is a 4.2% difference. If you did nothing but highway driving and actually traveled 100,000 miles; your odometer would read 104k.

No, the odometer is correct. Only the speedo is "off"

Have you verified this, or are you just stating it as fact? If the speedo is off, it seems like the odo will be off also.

If I remember, I'll check this on my way home this afternoon.

It's correct because when people put on larger tires like 265/75r16 the speedo is correct and the odo, shift points, and mpg read out are all, off.

    This kind of explains it.

Did some testing today. Waze recorded 52.2 miles on my trip and the Tacoma 52.6. Darn close. Would have been a greater difference if the odometer was using the speedometer. GreyBaldTaco got it right.

My 2017 is off about 3 MPH. Also has a hick up at 60 MPH.
It jumps back and forth at about 3-4 MPH when I am going 60.
    Only does it at 60.

Yup noticed on a trip when driving in front of my brother. He mentioned why I was driving so slow.
