I do not get nearly as good of a reception on radio stations with the Shark Fin antenna vs my 2nd gen or any other cars. I can barely receive any signal at all from stations that come in crystal clear in other vehicles? Anyone found a solution or added another antenna? It is kinda annoying. My new HU also has a meter to show the signal stregth of each satelite for the GPS and the GPS signal is also not the best.

If you’re running a new head unit then my guess is you didn’t adapt the antenna to it properly.

Mine is fine, I’m sure an old school metal “aerial” will receive radon signals better though.

I very rarely listen to broadcast AM/FM radio. But when I do, it seems to work perfectly fine.
Now, not as easy as just punching a button on the dash to get whatever station you want... But maybe just get the app for whatever station on your phone and listen to it through Bluetooth?

I hate the dumb looking shark fin design, but it works okay in my area.

No issues, but admittedly I have pretty low expectations for terrestrial radio reception in 2024. The ancient mast-style on my ‘14 FJC actually seemed to have better reception. Which proves that like a good set of rear drums, sometimes the “old ways” work just fine.

Might skip it altogether and try finding your stations on iHeart or something similar.

I don’t have any problem with AM or Fm reception but satellite radio is another matter. I live near the 45th parallel and hear in Oregon (Willamette valley) we have a lot of heavy wooded areas and hills and I find that the sat reception gets blocked quite often. I would think that a more robust antenna would help with that.

The 23 Tacoma gets the same radio stations that the 08 FJ does. Personally, I see little to no difference in north central Indiana

I have the same problem. shit reception only in my car. no issues on other cars I had.
I hope I'm not asking a stupid question, but I was told the antenna wires go through the rear window, and if it is tinted (like mine is) it damages the reception.
    Is it true?

Small lift, slightly oversized tires, well...
Mine was great, rarely lost a signal...that is, until the roof rack.
