I would love to integrate the Dodge Ram style system onto the Tacoma. A little high torque electric motor running off the belt. It doesn’t really give much of a fuel economy boost but man, if you could add 50ftlbs that would be great! Plus it could be usable with a MT.

Probably less complicated to integrate an electric boost motor and a Prius battery, then supercharging our little 3.5

Are those actual credits that come directly off the purchase price, or just a tax return scheme to bump your rate down a little when filing yearly taxes?

To get the full amount, it has to be built in the US by unionized workers. The only vehicle to meet those criteria is the Bolt, which has been and will be in the foreseeable future, not being produced due to problems with fires.

Good points about the Bolt. Just not many US and Union options. Even that Mustang is ineligible due to being assembled in Mexico.

I’d also like an electric or plug in hybrid truck but am not ready to trust Ford. The Cybertruck interested me but I’m not looking to stand out that much. Would prob have same emissions as a taco when you consider all the diesel bros rolling coal going by you ;)

Rebate in the current system but BBB modifies to make them point of sale. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

previous discussions had it as something that could be done at point of sale AND was refundable so you received the full credit regardless of your tax burden

I've got a 4wd truck and a family van, wife has a civic that's given us zero problems.. we don't particularly need any new vehicles anytime soon. But if we did buy something it would probably be full electric. I just can't see investing in another gas vehicle given the direction things are going.

The entire conversation will be different in 10 yrs when there's more charging stations around and gas is 8-10$ a gallon

Ten years from now, if there are a plethora of charging stations around, and EVs make up half the vehicles on the road, I don't think gaoline is $10 per gallon unless it's taxed by government... I would imagine there'd be downward pressure on gasoline prices since consumption would be down.

Personally until an EV can take me 300 miles w/o charging in the cold / snow, haul my stuff, and charge in the amount of time it takes to fill my gas tank, I won't be buying one. The large majority of my driving is long-haul, I take public transit to work, and the only short-haul driving I do is local shopping. An EV doesn't fit my business model.

I think charging time will always be a problem. For the average user this isn’t a big deal, they trade the weekly gas stop for longer stops on road trips. But for those that drive distance they don’t get the benifit of trading the weekly stop.

I don’t ever see charging getting to be within the realm of a gas stop. The fastest of chargers today have issue pushing that much current that quickly and the fastest ones use liquid cooled cables today. Improvements can be made but it would take the ability to push nearly 10x the current we do today and I don’t see that.

I almost bought a Prius last March; It was a 2010 with the JBL stereo and backup camera, it was in great shape, and $5,600 it was the nicest one in the area I could pay cash for. Unfortunately, it also had almost 170K miles and I was paranoid about the batteries giving out; It was at the same dealership that replaced my frame last month.

I personally think Teslas and other electric vehicles are technological marvels, but I wouldn't want to buy one until they charge a lot quicker; Yeah, my Tacoma only gets about 18 MPG, but I refueling only take a few minutes!

If your house has 100 amp service, you will probably need to upgrade to be able to charge an EV as well. EV battery disposal will probably turn into a big $$$ item as well when they realize what a nightmare they are.

the batteries in an EV have a lifespan estimated to be about 40 years. As far as “disposal” that not true, they are already being recycled. Tesla claims they are recycling 95% of their batteries today

Agree. And what if you are caught up in bad weather.. or an evacuation. In stop and go (but mostly stopped) traffic for 8 hours or more? Sure, you're not actually driving during that time, but you may still need lights and quite possibly air conditioning. And when you come back after the storm (hurricane) you may be without power for 10 days... IF you're lucky. Months if you're unlucky. How do you charge your vehicle then? There are many many real-world issues that are being swept under the rug.

An EV can sit in stop and go for FAR longer then a gas car, far far longer. The Lightning has three DAYS of average household usage (10 days if minimal usage) stored in its batteries, how long do you think that could run a small efficient air conditioner and some lights? Your gas car will be dead LONG before the EV.

If there is no power there is no gas so if the power is out your gas car will not be going anywhere, however you could charge your car a variety of ways, you cannot get gasoline anywhere except a gas station.

You right your right. I meant the smaller cars bc that’s what I was looking at. I mentioned I’d get something ridiculous looking so I’ve been looking at tiny EV. Should have said in the 200s bc that is what I was reading online for the smart car, mini, golf e, and something else I’ve looked at.
