 I must have the updated WeatherTech's...mine came pretrimmed around the gas pedal area. There's no way the old or new version of the pedal can even come close to getting caught up in the mat.

Nope, flushing ECU means replacing software in EEPROM.
In ECU there is EEPROM chip (like BIOS chip in computer) that retains its software with or with out the power connected. Flush erases its content and reloads with new content.
Disconnecting power has no effect on content unless happens during the erase and load time.
When you connect power ECU boots reading settings/software from the EEPROM chip.
Flushing EEPROM shortens its "shelf life".

    More on EEPROM ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EEPROM

It's a stretch, but no more than the toyota mats and stock pedal if not 'worse.' Neither would ever happen but, it still defeats the entire purpose of doing it. It was one of the previous 900 threads about this that someone posted an image of after the pedal cut on how close it actually got. After looking at my setup with the stock pedal, I can see how it'd be 'more' likely to catch shorter than longer... even though both are near impossible senarios.

I'll just agree to disagree. I just ask people look at the full situation, think about it, and make the decision for themselves, whatever that outcome may be. It's your vehicle, your choice. :D

The ECU is just a re-flash, it's the latest update along with the acceleration/brake prohibiter that kills the throttle when both are pushed at the same time (only above x mph, I forget what it is something like 35 or 40mph). There's no physical replacement, just the cost of labor to do it. However, a lot of dealers have refused to do just the re-flash without doing the pedal too, so you're sort of stuck with an all or none scenario in a lot of cases.

ECU is curious case, but I guess they figure out computer is last line of defense. There is no way to cut that pedal that absolutely nothing will get stuck underneath because, you can bet that somewhere there is a guy that collects phone books and stores them under the driver floor mat.
But with ECU re flash I want to see winter drivers performing :D
Large snow shoes + super short gas pedal + truck cutting power when you dont expect on slippery road, could mean only one thing ... more parts on scrap yards. :D
