First off, there's Federal income tax in every state, including Texas. So if you're making 60K a year there, your take home pay after federal income tax (about 25% for that bracket) would be 45K. State income tax in CA does suck, esp when they pay out state tax returns with IOU's. But that is only about 5% on top of the Federal income tax.

There are ghettos and criminals in every state, that's why I avoid having to go to the courthouse for any reason. I agree, the cost of living here is beyond outrageous. I could buy a 2 bedroom condo here for the same price as a 120 acre property in the midwest with a private lake, stream, and house.

Anyways, I will say that after living in missouri for more than 15 years, California is one of the nicest places in the world to live.

Texas doesn't have a state income tax. Instead they have a higher property tax, which makes sense on many levels. First of all, it keeps property values under control because there is a penalty for higher values that the owner has to pay. TX is one of 7 states that has no income tax. But some of these states have higher retail tax. At least with either property or retail taxes, you have some level of control.

I think in regards to California and particularly the Bay Area, its a great place if you "got in" say 15-20 years ago. Inflation has basically made it almost impossible for newcomers.

Maybe we should do a group buy in one of those properties by the lakes Erik Estrada is selling. It looks so appealing.

I left in 1988 and sometimes I miss it, but there is no way I could afford to move back. Ofcourse where I live here in Reno, it's not a long drive to visit.

I am going to use my "IOU" I get from the state (because they already spent and now can't pay back my state income tax), buy some nitromethane, and head to SACTO.

Who else wants to contribute?

You know i hate tell you guys, us Native Montana's Hate Californians moving here. I just want to drive a tank to work and run them all down. They ruin our state, and want to shut down all the hunts and things that have been here for ever. I hate CA as well, But we sure don't want that virus spreading here either.

Well... Its happening all over the place. Basically, anywhere that's still reasonably affordable is attractive. "Yankees" are absolutely flooding the South. My home state of TN seems to get a plethora of people from NJ, NY, MA, and -OHIO. They come on down and buy up Mcmansions, places on the lakes, and so on. Lots of older folks from up north who buy up all the nice places. It pisses me off royally. Then again, I can't talk because I know for fact Texans are pissed at all of us Californians moving in. I guess the US has always been like this. Once one area goes to hell, people move somewhere better until that place becomes the same. California used to be the golden state. Now it sucks. Now its Texas and the Southeast as the new "golden" areas.

Yep exactly, They sell there house for a serious profit, come here and buy all the awesome property against the rivers. Then they complain because people are walking down the river bank with there fly rod. However what they do not know is we can be on the high water mark anywhere in the state. I don't know how many of them i have told to F-off. There pretty quite when i have the side arm on though. Bozeman for some reason attracts all the A-holes from CA. I have however met a few that do respect the State, and those few don't bother me too bad.

I will say that all the yankees moving into my home state have done some pretty nice things. The downtown is now a lot nicer. When I was a kid it was almost abandoned. Now there's a couple of small breweries, nice places to eat and so on. It takes money to do those things and most of it came from other people from other states. But then again- I've seen what's happened to our neighbor state- North Carolina- and wonder if it will happen to TN. A lot of these people come in and are scared to death of the "hillbillies". I just tell em to get used to it. Yes- we have craploads of churches and love tinny country music.

On the other hand, I swear like every other person I meet out here in Cali is from New Joisy or something. Guess its nothing new.

Get it right son, They are called half backs. Because they went to Florida and said" damn it man, it is way too hot here. Lets move halfway in between HOT and COLD." So they moved half back to NY.

Ah yes... halfback Floridians. We no longer consider Florida part of the South anymore. But we sure get an awful lot of them coming up lately.

I grew up in Cali (near Sacramento). Bought a house about 10yrs ago and doing fine financially. Now regarding the people moving into the area it sucks. Too many bay area people moved up here and now traffic sucks, shopping sucks, and too much buildings and roads going in and ruining the open space. I still have a favorite spot to take the 4X4 not far from my house, they haven't paved over that YET. I do have one solution regarding traffic...riding my mtn bike to the store for small items, no sitting in traffic and I always get front door parking at stores and restaurants.

EDIT: and the smog check program here is a load of horsesh*t.

I think what it boils down to is that as long as people keep on getting married, popping out a coupla' kids, want a single family home with a yard, 2 cars and so on, things are only going to get worse. I've jokingly told some friends that someday we're probably going to have to have a one child law like China. At the rate we're going.... that might not be too far-fetched.

I can see where these other states hate people form California. Hell, I hate people from california. Most of the idiots here move and try to turn their new towns into California. Unfortunately we all get a bad rap. When I go home to Kentucky, I try to hide the fact that I live in California from everyone. People treat you different when they find out, and I cant blame them. I cant stand this place. When I cross the border into another state, I change as a person. Im more calm, Im more friendly, I drive slower, just an all around better person. Being here makes people angr and agressive. You have to be an ass just to get through the day. I want out so bad!
