All I remember about it was it was dirty, full of Illegals, and way crowded, now Im sure there are some really nice areas, Ive seen pix, some areas are sooo senic so nice, but not for me.

I think that on the other hand, its kind of dumb for people to hate people from California because they think that all of us are crazy liberal lunatics. I went to the North Carolina coast recently. I was talking to a hardware store owner there. We were talking about it and he said he would NEVER visit California. Why? Because of our politics. That was about the stupidest thing I'd ever heard. The scenic beauty, food, and even the local culture in California have zilch to do with politics.

I usually don't get a negative reaction when I say I live there. People usually are curious about it. The most negative comment I get is that they've heard its really expensive, which is true.

AT the end of the day I'm glad I got the chance to travel around and see the country. A lot of my friends back home have never left and as a result, a lot of their world views are sort of ignorant. But sometimes I am envious of them. Sure- perhaps they haven't done as many exciting things, but they are generally more content with their lives because they are all settled and comfortable.

We have the same problem in Nevada. Native Nevadans think they are special, when in truth they are just like everybody else. I don't have a problem with state pride, but insulting people just because they are from California is ridiculous. JMO.

I've lived in CA for about 23 years. I love California, hate the politics and dislike the attitude alot of Californian's. California is a "me" state. Everyone thinks they're the only person on the road, the only person standing in line at the checkout counter and the only person/couple at a restaurant, so they expect to be serviced accordingly. We drive fast and wreckless, complain about how poor our roads and our communities are, and then complain when the State raises taxes to pay for these improvements, so that when the taxes do get raised, the "me's" drive even worse, expect to be helped first and expect to get our orders taken first. Worst of all, the taxes don't improve the roads or our communities, and the tax money just disappears into some politician's pockets.

California's a great state. It's got everything from fresh produce to natural beauty and great weather. But it has it's fair share of politics which basically ruins the state.

    Go screw yourself dude.
I've busted my ass for 10 years out here. I've driven the same old, beater car and truck, learned how to repair them myself to save money, rarely eat out, worked 60+ hours a week, worked freelance on the side, even repaired small engines for extra pocket change, volunteer on a retired navy vessel on weekends, brew my own beer... to again save more money, and buy a lot of my clothes at Goodwill.

My Wife and I make well over a 6 figure income, save close to 50% of our take home pay, have been packing away for retirement for years ( me since I was 16) invest in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and have a stash of cash too. I could very easily buy a house in pretty much any other state I choose for cash, have some leftover, and have retirement almost spoken for. All before I am 35 years old. I can almost guarantee I am doing a lot better than about 98% of the schmucks in America.

So you can call me a "lazy ass" all you want. But you don't know me and you are most definitely wrong. I'm pretty damned aware of economics and financial planning. That's why I hate California because its stupid to pay $500k for some tiny little starter home when less then half of that gets you something a lot nicer elsewhere. By the way- I am speaking to more than one company in Texas now. I will likely have a job in hand.

So the next time you decide to call someone a "lazy ass", you might want to know a little more info about that person before you do.

if you make enough then stop bitching. your the type of cat who will complain no matter where hes at. everyones to blame but himself. sounds like you make more money and are better educated, but less happy than me. im grateful with what i got. i always strive to be the best i can, to move up in life. you'll find something to complain about what ever state you go to. i gauruntee it. youll also never retire, have a decent chunk of change in the bank and still think its not enough.

Dude- you're a blowhard. Most people don't do shit to change their situation. That's exactly what I am doing. What's the matter with that? If I don't like something, I change things. Sounds logical? Like I said- you don't know me. People have a right to bitch and a forum is the perfect place to do it. Its a good exercise. That doesn't mean that I'm Mr. grouchy all day long.

Man, I don't know anymore. I'm from Washington, stationed in Idaho and all I've wanted was to move to Cali when I get out. As of now, I am moving to the Bakersfield area. Its not that bad, but I am still thinking of not moving there simply cause of all the taxes. :( I've never paid a state tax, and now I will on top of the high cost of living. But, California does offer almost everything you can think of. I agree with most though about the Californian "attitude," I hate that. Oh well, its not enough to not make me move. Its the dumbass state gov't thats the problemo!

Sounds like you don't know what you're talking about. I've done just fine and when I am living totally debt-free in my paid off house with my retirement taken care of, we'll see who got "dicked by life".

Just tellin' it like it is. Don't tell me that you're just peachy-keen over every damned thing. If you do you're a liar. Like it matters anyway. You can be totally anonymous and call someone you don't know a lazy ass. way. to. go.

Wrong-o-. Like I said, I've been saving for years to move. Sometimes in life you have to work and save for what you want. For the most part I've enjoyed it here. The one and only thing that really annoys me is the cost of living. Thus it seems only logical to me to save up enough to move and therefor rectify the situation. On the other hand I know way more people who thought they had to have a house here and are now getting foreclosed on or they are slaves to their mortgage. No thanks. So you can call it "whining" all you want.
