since we are best friends and all maybe we should backpack through europe together.

greek islands would be cool as hell but thats not considered europe is it? or is it? back before college i had an opportunity to go to the greek islands and sail around on a 50ft sail boat for 2 weeks, all i had to pay for was a plane ticket over there. i was trying to save money so i declined and i've been kicking myself in the ass ever since.

My folks went to Southern France a few years ago. Its warm and has a Mediterranean climate. Their observations was that people in France are pretty laid back and nice... but they also drink ALL THE TIME. We're talking wine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which probably explains the being laid back. I'd be curious to go someday.

My former boss was from New Zealand. He's about the most laid back person I know. They drink a lot there too. The climate is also mild and pleasant. I wouldn't mind going there too. I have family in Australia. Occasionally I think about moving there. But its major cities are just as expensive as here. The rest is a desert.

I've been to the UK and Ireland. I did't like the UK that much. There's a surprising amount of racism that makes the South look like New York. They hates the Irish, the Scottish, The Italians, the French, but surprisingly a lot og them were ok with Germans. Ironic. It rained a lot there and I didn't care much for their beer. Ireland was more to my liking. Some of my relatives are from there. They knew we were Southerners and got along with us great.

Someday I'd like to go to some crazy artic country like Norway or Finland just because of the extreme cold conditions.

Oh- and I would love to go to Belgium. Best damned beer in the world. I'd like to take a 2 week long bicycle tour and stop at all the breweries.

I spent two weeks in France and plan on going back in the next few years. F the people... the country is full of art and history, everyone should visit the place at least once. But then again I'd sell my Taco to travel any day.

The only "Back packing" I do, involves throwing everything in the BACK of a vehicle, and driving to my destination.....or flying.....

so the irish got along with you cause you were from the south? can you explain that? most people outside America (from what i can tell) aren't very aware of the differences between rebels and yankee's. we're all yankees to them. the germans who came over were surprised as hell that we are seperated like we are. they are the same way with east and west germany but didnt know we hold grudges too.

your post definitely doesn't make cali any more appealing....

Yes. As soon as they heard me start talking they started asking me where I was from. Apparently a lot of Irish people love Elvis, jack Daniels, and oddly enough- pop country. It was surprising how similar they were to us. Then again, a lot of people in my home region came over from Ireland.

My Swiss friend told me that if you want to visit Germany, you should go in July because there's "no fucking Germans" there in July. They're all vacationing in Portugal.
