I picked up my beautiful truck on Sept 1st, and today while swapping out taillights I noticed that from the back, my truck appears to lean. Picture might not do justice, but when parked on a level surface like my driveway, the truck appears to lean. Measuring the drivers side rear from the ground to fender is 37 and 5/8 inches and the passenger side is 36.5 inches. It's very noticeable to the eye and it's starting to annoy me.

From the front everything looks level, and measurements are equal.

My ride seems kind of bouncy going over the bumps and some reverb/bottom out feelings from time to time, especially over a speed bump in the rear.

Probably should contact my dealer, but I want to upgrade shocks for better ride/looks and won't use them for that.

Also, would love some opinions on my taillight choice please. I couldn't stand that chrome on those stock tails from day one.

Did you check the shocks to see if one is broken?

I'm assuming you put a long level between your rear and front wheels, literally tire to tire to make sure your driveway is completely level.

    • To rule out any problems with your axle it would be worth measuring from the centre of the wheel to the bottom lip of your top fender.
    • If that checks out as being equal, make sure both sides are the correct pressure all around and use an accurate digital gauge.
    • Check the torque on your wheels nuts to make sure one side isn't half torqued and loose at the top creating basically a fit that doesn't fit
    • Check your leafs for cracks, damage, or sag and try to get an exact angle on the leafs from the axle perch to both ends
    • Check your ubolts for tightness on the low side
    • While you're there bounce the low end and see if it bounces more than 2-3 times without stopping and then check your shocks for leaking, damage, etc.
    • Measure the height of your bed on all four corners to see if it's aligned correctly. In the same vein check that all bed bolts are torqued down.

I took a look from underneath, but not sure exactly what to look for. It's very clean under there, and no leaky shock that I can tell.

Do the bounce test I suggested, it can help rule out a blown shock but it isn't a sure-fire diagnosis. Listen for clunks too.

the rear shocks don't affect height at all. If your driveway is Truley level, something is way off.

No, but finding any issues pertaining directly to, and those within the same section (potentially suspension here) whether they're related or not, why the OP's truck is tilted more than someone drunk out of their tree trying to climb a stairwell should be found, and fixed via warranty all at the same time.

If you've got cracked leafs, bent hangers, shackles, perches, axles, frame what have you you might as well go in with every single piece of information you have to say "here's everything I've found now do your job and find the rest, happy wrenching".

I just read the main post again. Check to see if your bump stop exists on the right rear end. If you're getting reverb and a bottoming out feeling it could be that you're hitting your bump stops aggressively which would mean your shock is probably screwed and/or the bump stops are defective and giving you a rattle when you hit them at higher speeds on bumps.

As we should all know from riding a bike, a shock should act to smooth out the compression of the springs so if you're bottoming out, getting reverb, bouncing a lot your shock is done for without a doubt. A thin film of oil is fine but any pitting, dents, oil drips, scraping or clunking noises when simply inspecting or doing the aforementioned bounce/jounce of the low side is a good indication of a shock issue.

All this being said someone mentioned this won't affect your ride height... However if you've been hitting bump stops for whatever reason, shock's screwed/what have you then there's a possibility you've bent the axle, cracked a leaf (eye)/perch/shackle, possibility rattled your ubolts loose. If anything is bent or cracked you can either see it as an obviously misshapen component or you might see cracked paint indicating damage beneath or in the area.

Looking forward to hearing more about the issue, might save someone else some hassle.

Based on the picture and OPs measurements, the lean is in the opposite direction of the usual Taco lean. Passenger side is squat in this case

Isn’t “taco lean” generally to the drivers side due to the location of the gas tank? His is lower on the passenger side.

This, taco lean is the driver side being lower, the pictures make it look like the passenger side is lower

I'd have the dealer look at it. As others have mentioned, it's leaning the opposite way of the taco lean (which is due to the driver, battery, and gas tank all being on the same side), and shocks don't affect ride height, the leaf springs do. I would think that's an issue with the passenger leaf spring or something related to it. Bed looks level with the cab, it lines up even with your side mirror turn signals on both sides. 1"+ off side to side seems excessive, even with these trucks.
