I haven't owned a truck since I was 18. I had a 4cyl Ford Ranger 4x4 (can't recall the year.. 198-sh) which I flipped and rolled running it too fast across a field (what? I said I was 18). Anyway fast forward to when I met my wife... I was driving a Chevy Metro... after the rebrand from GEO. Not JUST a Metro... a white 4 door model. Calm down, it had a stick so you could tell it was a man's car. :amen:

Fast forward through 10 years of marriage and we are prepping to buy our first truck together. Its going to be "my truck" so I get a 4x4 and the color I want. It will have an automatic transmission though so you can tell its a woman's truck (too)...

So the long and short of it is my wife mentioned how good I will look driving a truck. We were talking about my past cars, SUVs etc and I mentioned my trusty Metro from back when we were dating. The wife then tells me that she always hated that car because it "wasn't a man's car". AGAIN... IT HAD A SITCK SHIFT! :frusty:

She also mentioned my clothing I wore back then which I thought was completely inappropriate and off topic.

What was my point? I don't know. I guess I just wanted to say my wife hated my car and married me anyway but deep down she really wanted the "pickup man" inside me. :mudding:

Drove standard cab trucks for years and always needed more passenger capacity. My preference has always been truck and visioned a double cab mid size or small truck before they were made. Back in the day they were even rare in full size.

    No.
But I will say this; I have been married since I turned 18. I had a 250 access cab at 16. A few years ago I sold it and was basically forced to get another 250 but a crew cab.
I loved the access cab before because it was MY truck, not anyone elses. That shit changes when you put a ring on it.
If I think about it, if I just got the double cab to begin with It may have cushioned the ball crushing feeling of having to get a "family truck". Now I need a Tacoma as a second vehicle to restablish my independence.

I wouldn't buy an access cab in a midsize. I just don't think they are practical.
That being said, the Tacoma is only a family truck for two years until your kid can start kicking the front seats. There really is little room for people back there.

I actually bought DCSB after getting engaged. I sold my old 2 door GTI because I wanted something with 4 doors for the future little ones.

Girl who used to work for me was obsessed with Tacoma trucks. So when I bought mine she loved the pics I sent her, but it didn't get me anything....:(

I've been married over 30 years. My wife asked for the pitter patter of little feet around the house, so I bought her a puppy.

I bought an extended cab Dodge Ram when they first came out. Had to tilt the front seats to get into the back. Went shopping with wifey, and wifey lost it... :smack:. Still couldn't pile her booty in the back fast enough.

So I switched up when the third door became available. " What the fuck is that good for?" she asked, "It's on my side and now I'm stuck loading all the fucking shit!" :angrygirl:

So I started buying only DCLB's. Handy as a pocket on a T-Shirt.

We then started breading Westies and she decided that my leather trimmed truck, and not only her Escape/Explorer/Sport Trac/whatever (which were all set up for that with cages and beds and crap), should have all the same accommodations for these little bastards. :argue:

I don't need fucking dog beds in my back seat. I toss them in the driveway when I find them... and then toss them out the window when I find them in there again. My turn....

She finally gave in and leaves my truck alone.

see build...but not a whole lot
Bought a double cab to haul around friends for the most part. Most of them drive wranglers which suck to haul around 4 people. My parents also love to take my truck when im home from college. The girlfriends dad also drives a double cab tacoma so it didnt hurt anything to have a truck very similar to his. I'm only 20 so no plans for a baby for atleast 5 years probably more.

It was definitely one of my deciding factors. I had 2 wranglers prior also and I swore to myself I would never buy anything where I would constantly crave more space again.
At least now I have my "do everything" vehicle with enough seating and I can reconcile that when I start looking for my new toy with a V8.

I did exactly that. Fast forward five years, and I had both...my wife, and son. Worked out alright for me.
