See, this is where you read something and look too deep. The high-5 may have been originated by this initial event (However if you read more you will find that even wikipedia says it is "A common thought" and thus not a fact) and even if he retired (which was in 1980, 3 years after the high-5 craze was purportedly started) and started using it in his "gay community" group, that does not make a high-5 a "gay" gesture. Gay people wave to each other all the time...that doesn't suddenly make waving a gay gesture.

So no, I see no correlation at all between high-5s and it being supposedly a gay gesture.

 

I'm going to give very creepy and awkward high fives from now on and confuse the hell out of people.

 

I'm going to start interlocking fingers when I high5. Haha

 

yeah, well I read somewhere that if you give too many high fives you are at risk of becoming gay. I will try and locate the source...
