    +1

No fault of the installation unless the wrong part was installed.

This is either factory defect (unlikely) or abuse.

Another possibility is he reversed into a rock or some other object while off-roading.

Not likely... no damage to the tube or axle.

Did you let a kid named James drive your truck? I hear he can help with your insurance claim if you want.

Just a guess here ... Looks like you had the "rear spring TSB" done unless it came with 4 rear springs (hard to tell from photo).

If a TSB was done ... could they have gotten something out of alignment ... and that compounded a problem for your shocks ...

. I have that same shock set up. Mine is rusting from the winters around here, but looks fine normal wear and tear. Could this happen from say, a pot hole or a speedbump? How the hell

I do some offroading, but mostly on road driving. I dont think this happened because of abuse, OME advertises that they make shocks for the outback. Also, the rear shock is a non load bearing part, the springs are supposed to do that. If i was to break it jumping i think other components would fail before the shock would break. I'm running a 2" AAL and I think ARB has a 3 year warranty on the part.

According to ARB USA's web site, the warranty is 2 years.

Stop letting you wife or girl friend drive you truck--OH! was that a curb!-or I did not see the DITCH.
You must have hit something pretty hard-OR -REPEATEDLY Going fast over speed bumps-could have that effect.

If OME shocks can be destroyed by going fast over speed bumps, there are other problems.

Ive done that before on the red Edelbrock shocks on a blazer. On a hard impact the piston siezed or something then the shock was limiting travel till it broke. Or at least that was the most likely thing I could figure:confused:.
