Anyone ever notched the side of their frame for bigger tires?

I see no issue with notching it there. Just plate with 3/16 at minimum and watch for cracks. Probably be stronger than the existing frame. I cut my entire front frame off and moved it and made a new frame rail section with no issues

if you plan to sas, I would plan on cutting and remaking the frame as well. I’ve done both now and the benefits of cutting it off out weigh the grinding. More uptravel. Stronger. Less welding. Less grinding etc.

This is exactly why. And I have a cold air filter so it was just out in the open. Whats funny is I knew it would be an issue so I was going like 5mph through the puddle and I STILL got water in the intake. I thought it was hydro locked so I pulled all the spark plugs and when I tried to crank it, it still wouldn't turn. Upon further inspection I noticed a chunk of my block on the starter. And that's when I knew I f@#$%÷ up

So I have this exact pre cover. It didn't do anything. I think they are better at repelling like rain drops but not splashes. And it makes sense cause if it was 100% waterproof it would not be able to suck air through it.

Yeah my buddy used to work at EST Fabrication and now works at Nguyen Works. He knows a thing or 2 about frame plating and welding, even he is against notching it... he doesn't think we'd be able to cut enough and make it strong enough to fit the tire.

So I think after some thought and reading this thread I won't notch it. SAS is still a bit away but it'll make everything much easier when that time comes because I won't have to deal with a modified frame. If I was planning on IFS forever I would go for it, but again, since I have the axles sitting in my garage, notching it just doesn't seem like a good idea at the moment. I'll just deal with the rubbing until then.

This is why I asked in the 1st place. My motor was already out.

I would reinforce your engine perches while your engine is out. If you were staying ifs a long travel kit would help.

Good move, you'll be happy when you do the SAS to not have the notch if you decide to chop the frame and build a new one. It's a PITA to get in there around brake lines and fuel lines on the driver side.
