    Previous owner used to haul heavy loads, so he put an AAL on it and TRD front suspension with a lift and custom rear suspension for added weight capacity. I recently installed a tow package (Curt with lifetime warranty) So i will definitely see what this thing can handle as far as weight goes.
    With a 4cl tacoma, does your fuel gauge go down noticeably faster in some areas than in others? For my truck personally, my gauge will start dropping faster a little above the halfway mark then once I hit a little over a quarter tank it goes back to dropping really slow. One time I drove to school and back ( maybe 5 miles to and fro) at a little under half a tank and it dropped to just a little over a quarter tank. But then the quarter tank will last forever! Maybe my gauge is funny. Is any one elses like this?

    Mine seems opposite. Seems to drop pretty quick once I hit 1/4 tank.
    Your gauge probably seem to go down slowly once you hit 1/4 tank because you realize you are running out of gas, and unwittingly start driving more conservatively :D

    for me, gas goes faster between 3/4 and down to a 1/4 tank. its the 1st 1/4 tank and last 1/4 tank were i get the most mpg.

    me too. Sometimes it depends on the gas i use too. Chevron seems to take me about 40 miles longer per tank than discount gas. But its expensive and i use the discount stuff anyway lol.

    One time i was on fumes and only had enough cash on me to get 1 gallon. I used valero and went like 10 miles before i was on fumes again. never used Valero since. Our town Valero turned into a mobile station so i use that.

    Wait a sec, maybe cause its more expensive i conserve more by driving slow... hmm. Hahaha.

    Not to come across as a smart ass ... :cool: ... it is a gas gauge ... it gives you an idea of the amount of gas in you tank.

    As far as some saying they get better mileage out of 1st half of their tank vs. the 2nd half, I believe that can't be possible. As small of a weight loss there is as the gas is burnt, your truck is lighter than it is when you top it off ... hence, better gas mileage as long as everything else stays consistent.

    It seems that the most of us do share a constant ... when the light comes on we have about 3.5 gallons in the tank. 17.5 gallons is about the average to top it off.

    Mine took 18 and a half once and I overfilled it. Stayed at the full line for 80 miles. Didn't move at all... hope I didn't damage anything. Probably not.

    Well if your truck took 18.5 then you only had about 2.8ish gallons (arond there) left on the tank...I dont see you damaging anything :notsure:

    I definitely notice this, I can get about 80 miles on a full tank until the needle starts to move. Usually it moves down just above 3/4's of a tank. It will stay that way until I hit 120 miles, then the needle will move just below the 3/4 line...

    I am wild about my truck. I notice every little thing. Its a compulsion. Also being on the road to be an technician doesn't help. I like trucks, I like to look at them, work on them, talk about them, and learn about them. I have 3 posts. Geeze that's a lot. I'm just crazy about tacomas and anything else with a toyota symbol on it. Call me a nut, I'll sport it. I'm going to be an intern for a toyota dealership service and repair shop in october. Just soaking up info! From here, and anywhere else.

    once the niddle starts moving, meaning it burnt whatever you top it off with…. it should move at the same rate if you were to drive tru the entire tank at the same driving conditions…

    I respectively disagree. I have watched the needle move much faster in some spots than in others. And its always in the same spots. I don't think its a problem. Just a quirk. I still get my mpg regardless. (375-450) per tank,

    I was noticing that mine stays full or a little over full and as I am driving it drops to 3/4's its never 7/8 or there abouts, I thought that was odd it doesnt seem to afect milage, it's either full+or 3/4.
