Anyone ever put bench seats into their first gen?

I have an '02 and I'm curious if it's a possibility. Would love bench seats.

You can pretty easily swap between Tacoma buckets and benches. Most people go the other way, swapping out their bench for buckets + console.

I'm in an '02 that has bucket seats. You know where I can find compatible bench seats? Maybe a pick and pull would have a Tacoma with bench seats?

That would probably be the cheapest route, or finding someone local who wants the opposite swap. Seems like tacomas are pretty rare to find in most pick n pulls

I see part outs on my Facebook marketplace fairly regularly as well. Seems like seats are one of the first things to go though

When did Toyota stop putting bench seats in? I'm super new to the Toyota 4x4 community, so I didn't even know Tacomas had bench seats at one point

I’m not sure, they probably stopped entirely when they stopped offering a single cab. In extended and double cabs I don’t believe a true bench was an option, but many such as mine have a “60/40 bench” like this

This would be a drop in replacement as far as I know
These are what I thought you were talking about, but I believe single cabs had a true solid bench option

This is the single/regular cab bench seat.
Never seen anyone put one of these in an ext or dbl cab so not sure if you can

Thanks for all your help, man, I appreciate it. Do you think a '95 T100's seats would fit? Someone has one up and I wanna see if he's willing to part it out because it needs a new engine.

you also need to account for the center console you have. the solid bench does not work with it. would need to remove the part with the cup holders entirely.

the T100's would be wider in general so the mounting points may not line up.

'Fit' could mean two different things depending on your tools and skills. I've never done it, but I don't think mocking up some seat mount adapters is very complicated, if you are able to weld and fabricate. If you need it to just be a drop in replacement, I highly doubt anything outside of a 1st gen Tacoma (and maybe 3rd gen 4runner I cant remember if they use the same mounting locations) will fit.
So if you can weld and fab some mount adapters, then any bench you find that physically fits inside the cab could work.
I would also be worried that the T100 seats are too wide to even fit in the cab, since the T100 is a generally larger truck.

I had the same question. Have you made any progress on this?

You can absolutely put a bench seat in your extra cab, are you looking for a 'true' bench seat or would you be ok with the 60/40 that came in a lot of models?

    either way

You should be able to find a straight across trade, or make money in the process, since you have buckets and presumably a center console currently. They are the more desirable of the two, as previously mentioned.

fwiw, the bench seats have a silly low headrest thats not adjustable. The 60/40 will be easier to find, have adjustable headrests, be slightly more comfortable, and not force you and a passenger to compromise on legroom.

Not sure how far forward the bench seats fold, 'backseat' access may also suffer

    Emlev,

    Where are you located?
I am looking to replace my bench with seats that can individually be adjusted. My 6'1" teenager sits like a pretzel when my 5'4" wife drives him to school.
