They only pay for actual damages. So $8 for a new 2x4. They said the drywall screws were reusable and the duct tape was a disposable item so no $ for them. I'm considering going after them for the 20 feet of antique bailing wire i used, that stuff is getting hard to find. I'm guessing i should get another $5 easy. I just need to find a lawyer ready and willing to take on the insurance companies.

Dude that would of been funny to get a check in the mail of $8 from an insurance firm. If this was real, I would be sort of pissed if my rates went up for a measily $8 worth of damage.

Back in the 70s & 80s, I had a '46 Ford 1/2 PU that had been bought new by a local farmer. I partially restored it, then took a ride to the surviving widow and showed it to her. She got a big kick out of seeing it again. She told me that when it was delivered, it had wooden planks for bumpers, because of the war. She said that Ford sent them metal bumpers later.

    Pretty much stock right now

The OEM bumpers on my truck were a mess when I bought it between the rust, dents and bends. First thing I did, just to make the truck look better, was to replace them with OEM style aftermarket bumpers. Either OEM or aftermarket (OEM style) are not going to give you much protection in a significant impact. Your best bet is a custom HD bumper. Even then the frame would probably buckle under the impact.

As a woodworker, I would add that there are plenty of very strong and resilient wood species out there (Douglas fir, southern yellow pine or white oak, for example) which can be laminated together and worked into nearly any shape. After all, durning WW2, the hulls of PT boats were made out of plywood.

I got a check in the mail from the dealer for $1. Apparently they over estimated title/registration.

I hope you framed it instead of cashing it in.

Actually, wooden bumpers can be quite useful. If you have a farm truck or other vehicle that you need to push equipment/other vehicles, wood doesn't scratch what you're pushing (as much).

It also gives your truck that rustic cottage look.

nope, and I've seen it plenty of times up here, but its always been because they were too poor to get a replacement, usually its a 2x6 pressure treated board and some bolts with the license plate stapled on
