Just had my 2020 Tacoma stolen and have the vehicle locator but was wondering if anyone has had experience with it?

was it successful? Did it take days, weeks, months?

First off, I'm sorry to hear that.

I have not used it but I know the Toyota app shows me where my truck is parked. I assume if the battery is disconnected and reconnected, or the headunit settings are reset, that I'll lose that functionality.

I couldn't even begin to tell you how to use that service to be honest. I hope they find it soon and the truck isn't damaged.

Basics. Tires, painted headlighes, UHLM, baby winch in the bed, and heated mirrors :)
I would imagine a function such as a stolen vehicle locator would be harder to take off the grid than just unplugging and resetting it. But i have zero experience with it personally. i know some people hardwire a cheap gps-enabled cell phone under the dash or somewhere else hidden, and use an app to track it. Doesn't help OP at the moment but not a bad idea for the future.

Hope you get your truck back safe and soon, OP. Best of luck.

I'm not knowledgeable in this either but didn't you let the police know about that feature immediately when you filed the report?

Edit: almost forgot, sorry about your dilemma. Hope you get satisfaction one way or another.
On one hand, if my truck were stolen and I had good insurance, maybe I would prefer for it to not be recovered.

Wow man sorry about your loss. I hope they find it and it was just joy riders that didn't mess it up. Otherwise I hope you have good full coverage. If it's been damaged you my not want it back. In fact the longer it takes to find it the more time someone with no care for the value of it can beat the tar out of it. Very sorry. Hope you are able to post a good ending to this.

^^ This. It should have been one of the questions the responding officer asked when they took the report from you. I had my car stolen out of the parking lot at work years ago. After about 7 days my insurance company called me and said it's time to start the process to get you a new truck. Literally the next day the police called and said they recovered it. It was an older Chevy S10 Blazer and it was missing the tailgate and the stereo, and the steering column was a mess. They were actually very neat about removing the tailgate. The radio, not so much. Cop said the thieves most likely had a parts order and my truck fit the bill.

I would ask my insurance company how long they make you wait before they consider it a total loss. Hopefully you have rental reimbursement so you have wheels while you wait it out. Hope all turns out well!

Well, that's cast quite a pall over the festivities, hasn't it?

Sorry but it's a reality. I used to work a pizza hut as a manager. We had 2 delivery employees cars Stolen in the time is was there. One was recovered in a few days with minimal damage. The other was a total loss. Always hope for the best but be ready for the worst.

In the Toyota app it has a card that shows the last recorded trip made. But it takes around 12-24 hrs. It also shows trips made from the last few days. So you could possibly follow it also. If you have the app check it out and see if it gives a location. If so, call a cop and follow behind him to go find it. Have your buddy take you. Take your keys with you if you do find it, to take it back.

Interesting, I did not know that was available. One thing about it by it's looks, it plugs into the accessary port which probably means it's only powered when the vehicle is on (maybe). I'm under the impression that the gps in the Toyota is active 24/7. Doesn't matter much, most late model autos stolen are pieced out anyway.
