Good day..I'm interested in adding soft Kevlar, kinda like sound dampening is added to the cab just 7 layers to stop small arms and then going the cheap route of adding Hurricane film / Security film to the glass.. sure its less then ideal but it would / could be handy in urban environments now days.. Having protection only on the metal portion of the cab is better then nothing..7 layers of kevlar is about 3/16 th to 1/4 inch and it is sold in rolls..just cut to fit and stagger each layer weave direction like ply wood then sew around the edges..is there a better solution that won't break the bank ? I'm planning to glue it down directly to the sheet metal..with actual testing before installation..The electric door handles may come later..A bio / chemical filter will be fitted to the cab air inlets during the kevlar install..and the standard anti-grenade mesh on the exhaust pipe..the "James Bond " smokescreen will just be a windshield washer pump, pumping antifreeze into the exhaust system pass the cats and I have thoughts of the gimmicky roofing nail dropper and toolbox oil reservoir spray system but perhaps that's a bit much..The standard upgraded steel ram bumpers front and back will also be added with an airbag delete off/on switch will also be necessary as airbags will cause untimely delays and compromise safety..
The things people do just to drive to the local grocery store safely nowadays..Good times..Good times..

Rifle rounds will cut through your 7 pieces of Kevlar like butter.

I used to work with kevlar and one guy took the scraps and lined his car with it.

It's basically for acoustics, not bullet proofing. Most armored cars have ceramic plates and thick steel paired with bonded kevlar to stop bullets.

Kevlar won't stop most bullets. It works in tandem with other materials.

Yes..a rifle will go thru 7 layers of kevlar.. without a doubt..but most carjackers carry pistols..and 7 layers by themselves will stop nearly every pistol caliber, now add a layer or two of sheet metal etc it should be good to go..

Most " bullet proof" vest are 7 layers sometimes 9 layers..they stop small arms all day..a bullet would have to go thru a minimum of 1 layer of sheet metal to hit the kevlar and possibly a 2nd layer of sheet metal before being able to hit a passenger etc..Sure the Hurricane/ Security film isn't stopping any bullets but they would stop a smash and grab as well as a riot situation and provide protection to escape..

I am a collision tech in the Atlanta area . I'm subbed for a bulletproof Kevlar inner door skin kit group buy .

Could be attached with two part nvh foam .

I have been in and out of O'Gara Hess a few times for different jobs. They armored military vehicles, secret service vehicles, and privately bought vehicles. They would line the floor, and fire wall only. They said it was only good at stopping blasts from below. There would be different hardnesses of steel plating welded into the doors, roof, pillars, trunk, etc.. The door opening on the insides would get 3"x1/2" over laps of steel to stop the overlap shots through the door cracks. Then the glass would be replaced with ballistic glass.

The issue with a side business is the panels would have to be certified to a certain level.. to be sold as such..and I believe that process is rather pricey.. but for a guy to do it to his own vehicle is very affordable..its as easy as adding sound dampening basically..sure its not 100% protection as the dash would have to come out to the bare firewall..but to add some inner door panels..it would be rather easy..the B pillars are just as important as most drivers get shot thru the drivers side door, drivers side passenger door and B pillars..of course you can add kevlar to the seats..that would help alot, in a driving away situation..as the seat back would be protected from cracks in the armor..

You could do it and it has been done. Personally if I were going to bother I'd want a proof of concept. Go to the JY and grab a door, apply whatever you are thinking of going with and shoot it. On a more practical side you could disassemble your door panels and lay in a couple coats of Rhino liner or similar and probably achieve a similar result with the added benefit of sound dampening. IIRC A few years back Myth Busters gave the idea a "Confirmed". A couple ways to skin the cat but none more effective than the loud pedal under your right foot and the "Run" meter between your ears.

    Cheers,

    Doc

It could be built in layers . Wet bed liner would be a great adhesive with which you could stack layers of Kevlar. I have access to door shells for testing . Where can I get this Kevlar?
