Oh no gee gosh golly gee I didn’t realize I was talking to a “real man”. Maybe you wouldn’t have to worry so much about defense if you didn’t talk silly stuff. You know why I don’t need a bulletproof Tacoma? I don’t go around looking for fights. Insurance covers the rest.

A wise OG once said “Don’t start none. Won’t be none.”

For the record blackout badges ain’t my thing. Look in my build thread, it cost me $0.50 worth of paint to do it myself with my own manly hands like a real man. Reckon I sprouted a few extra chest hairs from that mod.

I feel like the OP is one of those guys who carries an IFAK, mace, tourniquet, a couple of knives and leatherman tools, and maybe some kind of radio on his belt, all the time. Not a gun though, probably isn’t old enough or can’t pass a background check.

It wasn't directed towards you " wi_taco".. nor is my post intended to stir the pot or troll as some people who are acting less then half their age do so well here..
It was directed to the person that inferred that I'm a moron etc.. They know who they are and others will too once they read the thread..
My only intention was to bounce some ideas around with like minded people and find out if anyone on this forum had any hands on experience..
I'm not going to even mention their screen name as it would only fuel their idiosity..
When I get the call from my local Stealership to pick up my 22 Taco my build thread will be posted..

EDIT.. Just because I'm waiting on my new 22 Taco doesn't mean I haven't owned Toyotas..bought my 1st Toyota in 2000.. some people take leaps and bounds..rant about something they have no idea about.. It's fairly simple if somehow my ideas or thread conflicts with your ideas..JUST DON'T READ IT.. Cheers..

He’s talking about me. If this was about protecting your family then move. Sounds like you live in a hell hole. Take the money it would take to bulletproof your Tacoma and get your family to a place where you do not need to drive a tank. How many times have you heard “thank god my truck is bulletproof or we would have never survived the gun fire”. You dont even own a Tacoma yet.

Agree, if I thought there were any chance of gun violence I would move in a heart beat.

Oakland is the worst I've seen in the states, and a bullet proof door would do fuck all. Fuck probability, I just won't visit there again.

OP I think you are trying to throw time and money at a solution that will be overly complex and completely under whelming. I have received training in shooting in and around vehicles, and have shot through them from the outside and inside. What you are talking about would be a huge project and would not even be worth the time without hitting level 3 capability, at a minimum. Sheet metal does not provide any additional protection, except in certain areas of the car like the firewall and roof pillars. Also consider that people tend to shoot at what they can see, which would be through the glass, which would be only marginally improved by your initial proposition. Windshields do not substantially degrade bullet effectiveness at close range, though it may change the trajectory. In sure the aftermarket film will not even approach the properties of a windshield.

Cool ideas, but I don't think they will pan out for you. Just my opinion though, if you go through with it I'd like to see it.

I would imagine there are up fitters out there who modify vehicles to survive extreme situations. They might not use a Tacoma as a base for those modifications. The Tacoma isn't the most ideal vehicle for those modifications.

I recommend purchasing a surplus MRAP. Kevlar will help with small arms but what about IEDs and RPGs?

I agree a 3rd gen Taco is less then ideal by a longshot..but is an inexpensive test bed for proof of concept while the Tundra waste gate / hybrid situation pans out and the 4th gen Taco with a turbo shows up to make a decision on the 2 different platforms..till then its the 3rd gen.. This is just a hobby to tinker with not a daily driver..

It's interesting that a person that has a legitimate question although not so mainstream as the usual example "how do I add some frivolous decorations or bootleg bed decals so the PTA school members think I'm some IG overlander star etc"..but because of some past trolls a new member is actually trolled by some other members and yet other members seem to think the new member is somehow an elaborate troll..lol like some huge conspiracy to waste a few minutes out of some members free time..
Its obvious that probably 25% is here only to troll, 25% is here to add decorative trim, 25% to help others while they build functional vehicles, 25% asking questions to help to fix /upgrade their vehicles..So the 25% trolling ruin it for the rest of the 75%..
You only need to watch the national news to see the dozens of horrible crimes happening across America each and everyday..to answer " is this person serious about adding light armor to a vehicle" you can ignore the huge crime wave if you choose to be a victim of crime sooner then later or do something about it before its at your door step..It's going to get alot worse before it gets better..
