Anyone from the Pasadena area? i'm having a hard time locating any trails or off-road areas near Pasadena within a 20 mile radius. Somewhere to have some quick fun at. Everything I can find on All-trails or similar sites are an hour out. Those are great but sometimes I just want a quick fix.

I did find Brown Mountain Truck trail in Altadena which is literally a 5 minute drive from me but i've yet to check it out and any searching I do only comes up with hiking or camping results up there. Nothing about off-roading. I'm definitely going to venture up there this weekend to check it out.

    Thanks!

There’s San Gabriel Canyon somewhat close to you, not sure how it really is though, as I’ve never been there.

I’m just down the road in Fullerton !

I'll check it out and so some research. Thanks!

I'm assuming you're talking about the OHV park out there? From what I hear it gets very packed there but I'll check it out. Thanks!

I live in Monrovia, been wheeling out here for a few years. In a 20 mile radius there's really only Azusa OHV, and that place sucks hard. Been there a few times and each time I wonder why I bothered coming back, never stay for more than an hour or less. It's small, it's crowded and it's full of CA rednecks which are not fun to be around (no offense to anyone here).

The next closest trail(s) are probably Cleghorn and Pilot Rock, which are off the 138 highway maybe an hour from Pasadena. Really cool trails, I take the Pilot Rock trail from that area up into Lake Arrowhead often.

Next closest out that would would be all the stuff up in Big Bear, and there are tons of trails up in Big Bear from easy to difficult.

The other direction headed north, Rowher Flats and Drinkwater Flats are closest followed by the Gorman/Hungry Valley OHV area off the Grapevine.

Unfortunately in the Angeles National Forest area right behind Pasadena, offroading is pretty much prohibited. Not much of anything allowed out there anymore. There used to be 10 years ago but most of it is closed now.

Thanks for the breakdown. That's my gripe about Azusa OHV. I haven't been there but from the videos I see it just looks like someone let the crazies out. I'd like somewhere I can go at my own pace and not get yelled at to do a back flip into mud.

Anyway, maybe I'll look into Big Bear and make a trip out of it. Sucks there isn't much left in the 626 area. I'm guessing the truck trails I found on google maps will be closed when I get there. Anyway they are 5 min away from me so I'll swing by.

I live in Pasadena, and what @eon_blue said is probably the best info.

I mountain bike around Brown Mountain, and Pasadena/Alta Dena, unfortunately its not vehicle accessible, its a "truck trail" in name only now. I think it used to be a road a long time ago, when there were houses and structures up in those hills, but its all hiking and biking trails now.

Thanks for confirming. I figured as much since all I found were biking or hiking info when I searched around.

Yeah there used to be the Rincon Truck Trail all along the ridge of the San Gabriel Mountains, I did it once or twice maybe 14 years ago when I had my Prerunner. There were all kinds of fire roads out there and some of them pretty rocky/rutted and made for some good, close to home wheeling.

When I got my 04 a few years ago I looked into all those trails I used to do in the early 2000s and they're all gated up and closed off now. From what I read, the forest service got tired of all the trash and mess people left behind and people getting hurt up there and needing rescue. Shame cause it would be nice to have those trails so close by

Don't know about an OHV park, but I remember folks used to wheel out there a few years back.
