Is it just me, or does 'Taco' irritate you? Maybe it's because I grew up in Seattle, which of course is near Tacoma, but calling a Tacoma a 'taco' annoys me. It's stupid. Saving a couple of letters, a single syllable, is not worth it to use this pathetic nickname.

I love Tacoma and my Toyota Tacoma; I loves me my tacos, especially the fish tacos served in Todo Santos, Baja Sur, but to call this great truck a 'taco' is blasphemy. Why compare these vehicles to some cheap ass tortilla concoction? Makes me think of a Taco Time preformed 'taco' shell with tasteless American Sauce dribbling down on everything.

    Enough already!

some of this, a little of that

Not really nothing different from calling a Chevrolet a chevy or my old one a giantpieceofshitrustingandleakingfromeverywhere...for short. As long as it is being called a taco as a form of adoration and not as a way to slight the truck.

:) Reminds me of my friend who calls his ex 'psychobitchfromhell.'

Words have power . . . and meaning quite separate from what the user intends.

I can use the 'N' word with some of my closest friends and not give offense when none is intended, but I cannot use the word to a general audience without offending.

'Taco' represents a different case. Certainly in this forum it does not offend and is not intended to. But for me, it is an ugly word, a cheap and misleading word. The intent of the user is irrelevant to me.

One may mean 'rose' when one uses 'manure', but I still see a pile of . . . .
    :)

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone. "It means just what I choose it to mean - neither more or less."
"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."
"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master - that's all."
