I am now at 1,500 miles on a 2009 DC-SB, SR5, TRD, 4.0 (locking diff) and I get exactly 19.1 mostly city driving (some Interstate) in Atlanta area.

I top the tank off and check the old fashioned way with no onboard computers.

This should easily get 20+ MPG on level highway after it is broken in (especially with all synthetic fluids).

I get 20mpg around town all day long...oh wait, that's with my 4banger.:D Sorry, just had to.:yay: I run 87 too.

For any motor, just run the lowest octane you can with no detonation for your driving habits. .02

That is also my finding. I get 1-2 mpg better with 93 octane. It never fails, I fill up with 87 and I am in the low 16's, fill up with 93 and I'm right around 18. That's why this:
is just plain wrong. IMO, of course.

4x4 or 4x2? Those are good numbers if 4x4 auto. I've only seen 20 a couple of times w/ almost 30k, full syn, recent spark plug change & AFE Pro Dry secondary intact. I stayed w/ my stock tire size when I swapped out the OEM running 245/75/16s. Never seen 20 in my city driving & Vermont doesn't have much city...:D

Sounds about right. The 1GR-FE engine develops a few more h.p. and about 12 lb-ft more torqe when 91 or higher octain fuel is used. FWIW, when I did my test, I found I saved about a dollar or so per tank when useing 91. :)

When I bought my truck I got an average of 22 mpg on the first week, since then I put a Toneau cover on it it dropped to 17mpg. I can't really say that it's he cover or not I did tow a boat for a day and drove around town also. I think it's soon for me to acurately check it, I still have over 1/2 a tank left in it. I will continue to monitor it, so far I have no complaints anything is better than the 11 mpg I was getting on my "06" Tundra.:D

For the record, my gas mileage went up as well with 91, or I think they have 93 here? I forget, move too much. Eitherway I would get the better half of 20mpg on premo, whilst getting only 19 on regular. Did a little math at the gas prices and it was actually cheaper to buy premium... it REALLY depends on where I buy the gas though, not all places have good premium gas.

I am consistently getting 14-16 mpg with 87 octane. I have an 06 access 4x4 auto trans 3" lift with 285/75-16's. The more rubber and the taller you make your truck significantly impacts your mpg's. It's like trying to fly a 4x8 sheet of plywood kite on a string. It just isnt efficient!!

I live in a hilly area, and I get crappy MPG around town (16ish).

I've owned the truck for over a year and JUST YESTERDAY had a chance to take it on a relatively long all-interstate trip. I wanted to see how good my MPG was so I filled up before and after.

    Just over 21 MPG.

I had the same size tire and had the same estimates when I used the odometer, but it was closer to 17-18mpg when I compensated for the tire size increase. Are you using the odometer readings for the calculations? I ask because 285's throw off the speedometer and odometer by 7% over the stock tires.

It's definately possible. My first tank was 20, the next was 21mpg. This is a mix of highway @ 70-75mph, rural roads @ 35-50mph, and some city driving.

I think you can do it easy if you stay anywhere in the 70s on the highway. I drive like a maniac daily and I've been getting a solid 19mpg in my truck.

I have a 2008 DC V6 with the TSS package. This includes the Borla exhaust with the Borla air filter. I do not have a tonneau cover. I consistently get 20.5 - 21.5 MPG city/highway combination.

I have the access cab 4x4 trd with the 6spd and only get 16-17. I baby the truck all the time keeping it under 2000RPM and use 91 oct. chevron gas. I dunno if it's the Hawaii weather but I cannot believe the claims of 20 plus MPG. Especially if the toyota rep tells me that tacomas don't usually get that much anyways. I will tell you the power is great and I can cruzit up hills in 6th gear without any strain and trust me lots of hills on the Big Island or Hawaii. I would wait until they have some kind of hybrid for the tacoma. Those old 22r's are badass and you should stick with it if you don't need the burn rubbah power as people would say here.:D

I'm averaging 20.8 on my DC 4WD, but that's based on only 3 fill-ups, and I've been taking it pretty easy... most of the time . Just passed 1k miles a couple days ago. Mostly two-lanes, hills. No freeways here but there's some long, straight stretches of good two-lane road.

I heard the auto are better in MPG. Most DC have the autos here on tha BI. Where you located? You fish or dive? Hit up the off road trails if you like:D
