Anyone running stock tires (265/70/R16 or 265/65\R17) don't forget to knock about seven tenths of a mpg off of your number. Our speedometers read slow and are accurate at the next size up (265/75/R16 and 265/70/R17). Going by revolutions per mile (657 and 681), it's about 3.6% off of what it should be. So, 20 mpg is really about 19.3 mpg etc. Also, at 36000 miles, your really has about 34,685 miles on it.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before. It's a long thread and I don't want to read all of it.

I am not conviced that this is accurate. The speedomoter can be inaccurate and the odometer still be accurate. I have compared long trips on the odometer to both a GPS and calculated route information on mapping software. Several hundred miles and all the data was within less than five miles. I wondered the same thing until I checked the actual readings.

    I was a little worried when I was 1st filling up. 13.4, 12.5, 14.6, 13.8. Etc.
Now I have some more miles (3k) and made the switch to 93 octane gas and synthetic oil on my 1st change. Already in my 1st fill ups since the changes I have gotten 15.6 then 16.5
I hope it keep going up when the summer gas gets in and I change back to alloys and stock tires (running steels w/ winters).

I'm running stock size snow tires at the moment. On a recent trip I cross checked GPS against ODO and found a difference of 0.3 miles at 100 miles. That's less than 1%. Speedometers typically read in the vicinity of 3-5% high by design. Odometers do not have the same built in error.

I'm using Fuelly to track my MPG, look at my sig(just below).... It's a cool little app, it helps keep my MPG in check as well as how much fuel is costing me. This last tank I did 19 but if I do Highway and stay under 70MPH, 20-22MPG can happen.

The last time I checked it was 20 mpg. Next Wednesday a group of us are heading down to the north central GA area for a week of road bike riding. Ellijay for a day to visit friends and then 6 days in Helen. It's going to be around 1,200 miles round trip, so I'll report on the fuel use when I return. I plan on keeping the speed at posted or 5 over. No radar.

Most I ever got was 17mpg about 1 month after I got my truck. I installed a tonneau cover this winter and I hear that they give you better mpg. It's still pretty cold here but I'm hoping that I'll get better mpg this summer.

Anyone notice if their mpg went up after installing a tonneau cover?

19..87mpg last week, went through just about the entire tank.

This is going to work and back, with some highway driving. The highway driving is what kills the mileage INMO.

I only have 2,000 miles on the truck, so it isn't broken in yet and I have yet to adjust tire pressures to where I want them

BTW- I am in MA so we are still on winter gas and I havn't broken down to purchase a bed cover yet

i average with 22mpg both street and highway miles per tank...:)

its all about how you drive...and when you shift if you got a 6speed like me...throttle position is key and having a SGII to monitor your mileage is always helpful...

18.55mpg here. I expect it to go up once they stop putting gas line antifreeze in.

Checked my milage after installing my tonneau cover.

I usually do city driving. I filled up this morning and I got 16.9 mpg in the city. I did a 3 hour highway trip today and I filled up again after I got back and I got 19.8 mpg hwy.

When I first got the truck last summer I was getting around 14mpg city and the highest I ever got hwy was 17mpg. That was without the tonneau cover

    Cheers.

I get 20+ miles per gallon all the time City or Highway. I don't drive hard and its pretty flat here at sea level, I have gotten close to 23 several times on long trips. Stay away from E-85 your mileage will go to hell by a lot. As your truck gets mores miles it will improve somewhat, mine has 105,000 just drive like you had to make that note every month.

Checking in several thousand miles later.

This winter (with new ARE mx cap and Winterforce M&S tires on) our best tank of gas was just over 16mpg, most were low 15's. Didn't seem to matter what kind of gas, if we spent most of the week doing highway miles, around-town miles, or even the few days we spent out at friend's country place doing a lot of 4-wheel driving in deep snow....no change. always ~15mpg.

Then Spring came and the mileage got a touch better with warmer temps and summer tires back on, ~16mpg.

We just took a 9 day (2,000+ mile) road trip to Newfoundland last week (pics to come). We got our two best tanks ever going through, and then coming back through, North-Eastern Maine & New Brunswick. 18.8mpg and 19.5mpg!!!! All 60mph highway, with cruise control on, fairly flat (by VT standards), and both times we had Ethanol-free gas.

While in Novia Scotia/Newfoundland we got mostly mid-17mpg's on flat roads at 55mph (great by our standards!).

So, we can hit 19.5mpg in the **best** of all possible conditions, but that's it. No 20+mpg for this 4x4 V6 2nd Gen, oh well.

So after 13.5 in the winter and new truck, I have averaged 18 and gotten up to 19.5 one tank. 18 and change for the most part.
