I was able to get 26 mpg on my last tank. I had to make a couple mods that I've gone over in here

20 miles per gallon every tank. That should equate to about 18 mpg for the yankee gallon. the canuck gallon is 10% LARGER. US GALLON=128 OZ CDN GAL=160 OZ. It's like Texas here in Canada things always bigger and better!!lololo!! No insult intended!!:)

i just got 19.1 on a 240 mile trip, it was going from sea level to 5200 feet, then back down to 4300. goin back i would imagine i can get 20 next time. my K&N drop in filter added about 1 MPG for me on the same trip as compared to a week before when i did it.
oh, PMO that would be 16MPG for us here in the us if the 160:128 oz thing is right.

Well, to my surprise dropping in a K&N Air filter and doing my first oil change with Mobil 1 Synthetic (which I always use on my other cars) caused an almost 1mpg increase. The last tank I got 19.57mpg for almost all city driving, I only got 19.33 on my last all highway trip driving between 55-70mph. I didn't think it'd make a difference but it did!

I get about ? Never really paid any attention
If I was worried about fuel milage I would have bought a GEO
Run it till the light comes on and then put more in
    Thats my theory

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
In the summer( or warmer weather) I get about 19per gallon, in the winter it drops to 17 or so.
Cannot seem to get it over 20mpg. Just running a standard air filter and a 6spd.

2005 Tacoma DB cab Prerunner AUTO V6......4x2 model....

    Upgraded to Electric Fan...............
Complete induction tube and K&N Filter Model 77(?)

Upgraded to 265-75-16 TRD alum Wheels............

I am getting 19 flat ground, full tank average, outside temp 50F, bed gate down..........19 for a non 4x4 truck..........are you kidding..WTF.....

I used 3 GPS units and they truck is dead on up to 100mph. How can this be if the truck has bigger tires on it now.

How far off was the 245 series tires......Is this how they claim more milage by using the wrong speedo gearing?

I thougth I should be getting over 20 for this model truck///// yea bigger tires, slightly but Electric fan and CIA and bed down......

    Any ideas

    thanks

I just mean damn, I could have a 4x4 full size truck with full size motor and get 18 highway...........

Put the tailgate up. Mythbusters proved it's more efficient to have it closed. :D

Oh, and there doesn't seem to be much real world difference between 4x4 and 4x2..... I mean, I can get 20+mpg on the way to work. I could maintain that for the whole tank if it wasn't for the damn hills around here....

It's definitely worth comparing with the tailgate up, but not for this reason. Mythbusters is what they call info-tainment. I watch it, but it's not real science. They demonstrated that for that particular model of truck they were driving, the aerodynamics were such that mileage was better with the tailgate up. I forgot what they were driving, but it wasn't a Taco, which has different aerodynamics. And even "Taco" is too broad of a term. Reg cab, AC, DC SB, DC LB, will all have slightly different aerodynamics.

they were testing a dodge Dakota to my knowledge. its a strange thing to because just like you said, its gonna be dependent on the cab and bed configurations too. my old '95 Chevy used to get about a 1/2 mpg better with the gate down, but thats just that truck. they're all different. even a tool box in the front of the bed is going to affect it.

I have an 06 dcab sport with 58k on it and unfortunitly i have to use my truck for delivering in constant "stop and go" traffic...i'm barely getting 10mpg out of it...i got a manual and tend to shift around 2500....but i got a quick question, when cruising down the highway around 65+ my truck seems to me to rev high...it's usually around 2700-3000, but the engine sounds like i should "shift" again, but i'm already in 6th gear...is that normal?....

it's the manual tranny. its overdirve is a little higher than the auto so it revs higher on the freeway. at 65 mine runs 2500rpm.

FYI, the autos sit at around 2K RPM at 70 MPH. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered this.

At 70 mph I am turning about 2200rpm. Wish it were a little less.

I'd have to look for it again but I found results online of a very impressive set of wind tunnel tests of several trucks including a DC Tacoma set up in different configurations of tailgate up, down, tonneau and tool box. All of the trucks had the most drag with the tailgate down. The lowest drags measured came from both a full tonneau and a box that covered the back third of the bed. (Not that I've ever seen someone put a box there in the real world.)
