    ... ^^^ ... I hope I can get that on my 4x4. Had a 2011 TRD 4x2 and got well over 20 ... with this 4x4 ... have to wait after break-in period.

... ^^^ ... Several times a week I will slow down and/or pull over and let a "tailgater" around me ... same thing with some big trucks (on some roads).

My reasoning is: ... I would much rather have the "tailgater" in front of me (where I have control) than behind me (where he has control) where he can run over my azz in traffic.

WHOA guys, sorry I was referring to highway driving. My 35 mile commute is 80% highway, and everyone for the most part is traveling the speed limit to 5 above. Sometimes there is someone on the phone, not paying attention, those are tho ones I'm talking about. I totally agree with you on aggressive driving, tailgating, etc. I commute on a cycle most of the summer and I'm very aware of 'those' idiots and the problems they cause. Their unsafe driving habits could cost me my life, not just a smashed number!! If someone is on my ass on my cycle I let them know it, most will back off, if not I find a place to pull over and let them by.

2010 DCLB 4x4, 18-19 mixed, 21-23 highway. Regular gas, tire pressure at 32psi (seems to be the trick, does cost a little in ride quality). Took til about 15k miles to break in and get over the 20mpg mark.

Overly aggressive drivers suck and generally they aren't even good at driving. Often times you'll see them tailgating someone and swerving from lane to lane only to get ahead by a car or 2. Generally I just let them pass if possible. If that's not possible I slow down to the posted speed limit. Usually that stops them from following so close. Since the Tacoma is big compared to a lot of cars, people generally keep their distance. I have more problems with tailgaters when I'm driving my MR2 even though I drive that car faster. Most people do the speed limit or 5-10 mph over on the highway to avoid getting speeding tickets. If not for that I would drive faster too.

I'm getting about 19-20 mpg with 91 octane after 2000 miles on the 2012. Mixed use, some 4wd. Very little steady freeway driving. Not bad, not great. Hauled a 620 lb. load of dirt and rock in the bed for a couple days before I made the trip to the landfill, no towing.

Toy can do better, though. They'll upgrade the engine(s) within the next couple years I think. They're due to roll out the Gen 3.

It's time to do a little beating on the beast. Two 23.xx tanks in a row have things all carbon'd up and it's starting to ping on midgrade again.

If I would have only bought the auto, I wouldn't have to work so dang hard to get the same numbers!

This summer I have been getting +19-20mpg every tank, mostly back country road driving with some in town and a touch of highway. On vacation one tank 90% highway I got 24mpg my best tank ever...

Got 21.3 on my last tank...90% city driving but I go to great lengths to keep it under 2,000 RPMs. I drive 8.3 miles to/from work each day and the fastest speed limit I see is 45.

I get about 20MPG's on average. People who accelerate to driving speed slow miss out on MPG's. The quicker you get up to driving speed the better MPG's you get. It takes more gas to pick up speed than it does to maintain it (until a certain level of speed) That doesnt mean floor it, still got to be reasonable. I stick around 45-50MPH and 70 on the freeway.

Just took a road trip and was averaging just over 22 mpg by watching the fuel used from my Ultragauge vs the mileage. That was until we got to Charlotte and had to let the truck idle to keep the air on a couple of times to keep the wife and my baby boy cool in the hot sun. Hated that I had to do that because I wanted to see how good I could get on the whole trip. Wound up being 20.1 for the first tank then filled up about half way home, only had about 100 miles left from there.

And this was with the bed loaded with maybe 200-300 lbs under the tonneau.
