Nope. Your mileage is dead on where it should be.

Fuelly shows the real story. Anyone claiming a regular 21+mpg out of even a stock v6 is a massive outlier or simply outright lying.

If you get close to EPA numbers you are fine.

I got 23mpg on a LONG stretch of 2 lane leaving Colorado. And my journey began shortly outside of Wolf Creek Pass. 67-68mph on 265-75s, went 420 miles before the fuel light came on. Now obviously I don't do this regularly but was impressed with the mileage.

Under ideal conditions I have been getting over 20mpg. My last tank was 20.5 mpg. I am travelling 50 miles each way and the speed limit is 55mph and I am travelling 60-65mph. One stop light, 3 stop signs. Lots of hills. 70 degrees outside. I have 245/75/16 and a canopy. 2007 Base, double cab, long bed and 4x4. I agree with the people who recommend looking at fuely. Best resource for real numbers.

Regular highway mileage is around 17 to maybe 19, saw 20.1 once under ideal conditions (lightly loaded, stayed around 70mph, had a quartering tailwind. '15 TRD OR DCSB on 265/65-16 Michelin LTX AT2's, truck has a hard tonneau cover. Normal in town mileage is 15-16mpg.

I do a lot of highway driving. By my rough calculations I get 20-22 MPG.

The magic wall for me is 70 MPH. If I can keep it under 70 that's the key. I think that's where the aerodynamic wall really begins to show.

But set the cruise on 65 and 20 isn't that difficult...at least with my particular rig.

A 6100 mile trip in June 2021 from MO to CA and back gave a grand average 17.3 mpg. This was predominantly highway driving at 55-75 mph.

2015 Tacoma DC 4WD TRD with ARB bullbar, tonneau cover-mounted RTT, OME suspension (about 2-inch lift), BFG AT KO2 235/85-16 at 34 psi. Odometer corrected for tire diameter. 45k-51k miles on truck. Generally there would have been more headwind on the first half of the trip, more tailwind on the back half. Nothing special around winds this time as I recall -- often from the side.

Hey do you have any head on photos of your truck with the current wheel / tire setup?

2015 TRD OR stock height with 265/70/17 on SCS BR6 wheels. I get 20 regularly in Wisconsin’s warmer months and more like 18-19 when it’s colder. I log every gas fill-up in a spreadsheet with mileage correction factor for non-OE tire size. As many said before keep it on cruise control, under 70mph, and don’t dream about being a race car driver and it shouldn’t be difficult.

Edit: Here's my fuel logs from 2020 with old worn out suspension, worn out tires, and just starting my journey as a Tacoma owner doing routine maintenance. Big group between the horizontal lines is a trip from WI to NM and you can see where it drops from either elevation/hunting gears on hills or the higher posted speed limits out west. Surprise, surprise that midwestern flat lands get better mpg, eh? Column labeled "Adj MPG" is corrected for tire size. Averaged 18.63 for all of 2020 and I'm not sad.

Keeping it under 70 without Cybil, (cruise control), I can squeak 20 mpg.

If Cybil has the pedal, she's dropping 3 gears and we're screaming up modest inclines.hehehe

Can get 20mpg+ all day long on the interstate if I keep it at 65 in my TRD OR DCSB with armor upgrades and a bunch of gear in the back seat. Feels like you're going backwards in time compared to everyone else though LOL.

The shape of these trucks loses against wind resistance.. takes too much work to do even 75mph.

I use 88 etoh free gas. I pretty regularly get 20+. Lately it's been a bit lower because all my trips are short, like a mile or two and any long trips are full ac going nearly the entire time.

The easiest way to increase your mileage is to keep it below 2k rpms. That equates to less than 70.

55 seems to be a sweet spot with the 4.0 v6. Keep your RPMs down around 1500 and you can easily get 24 or better.

-Want better Gas mileage...move to Canada.a Canadian gallon equals 1.2 (1.2009) US gallons. Well not really better mileage as our gallon is larger...but it feels like better mileage.

The price of a Canadian gallon of gas is between $5.00 to over $6.00 US dollars a gallon, and going up!! That's for regular unleaded.
