Hey they found what they are saying could be the largest Natrual gas deposit ever found in the US right under my moms house! well her land in on top of part of the reserve....lol

They say she will get some loot for the lease!!!!!!!!!! Go Mom.....

I hope they build some new refinery's.......Canada will be pumping a bunch more by 2012, Tripling output. And Saudi is about to finish up the worlds largest of it's kind new project that will put more oil on the table.....

Sounds like you guys know your Oil stuff.....! I am a Refinery inspector, 18 years, been to Saudi, South America's, USVI, E/W/S coasts working in the sticky stuff.

We have plenty of the relatively cheap gooey stuff around we just have to equalize out.....The market will determine the right path... Oil is probably going to be it..

BQI had a pull back today. I doubt they stay down tomorrow. They don't like to go through the weekend Out of the stock when big news could be out over the weekend.

    Regards

It's financially risky to build more refineries. The cost is very high, and there is a significant chance that demand will go down in the future. Consumers are already buying smaller cars and trading in the SUV's for cars. Large trucks for smaller trucks like the Tacoma. By the time the new refineries come on line (several years at least) there may not be the need for them. That makes the oil refiners very nervous.

Off shore drilling won't help much at all with prices. It will take 10 years or so for the oil to reach the markets. The current talk of it helping with current prices is just political posturing - don't buy it. Should we allow more drilling? I don't see why not as long as the US taxpayers get significant fees for drilling on our lands.

I routinely get 19.5 MPG in mostly around town (rural) driving. Sometimes get slightly over 20MPG on the highway.

averaged 20mpg mixed city highway, lot of start and stop (run a local service business) on the very first tank run through my 08 TRD double cab Heavy Duty Off Road package, running stock of course. hauling on average 700lbs of cargo plus me, i do have to run by the speed limits lest i get tickets and loose my license and business. i'm looking forward to running Amsoil once broke in and also adding a URD cold intake with a MAF calibrator and seeing how it does. i used to do business out of a 97 ford ranger 4 cylinder and averaged 12-13 mpg so this is saving me a ton of gas cash already.

I get between 19 and 20 mpg on highway using regular gas.
Average speed about 75 mph. Approx. 400 miles on 21 gallons of gas if not too much stop and go. Around 300 to 350 miles on a tank of gas when mostly city stop and go driving.

There's a lot you said here that isn't true.

First, people were buying smaller cars throughout the 70's after the oil embargo (look what Ford did to the Mustang). What do we drive now? Did demand go up or down?

Second, off shore drilling WILL help prices. If Congress were to announce repeal of legislation that prevents drilling, market prices would drop IMMEDIATELY. Market speculation is what is mostly driving our current prices, just like in any other industry. Buying and selling of oil futures or any stock is basically gambling or betting on future prices so if more oil were available, speculators would be betting against the market thus driving prices down.

Third, what "significant fees" are you talking about? Do you want more oil or not? Oil companies are the ones who spend all the money finding, delivering, and refining the oil and they only make about 8% profit on a gallon of gas while giving us a product that we want and need. Meanwhile, the federal government makes 18% per gallon and does nothing. When will taxpayers be seeing their money's worth out of the federal government?

Furthermore, had we started drilling years ago, like in 1995 when Bill Clinton vetoed a bill to allow drilling in ANWAR, we wouldn't be in this situation now. We can keep saying "Oh it won't help us" while oil prices continue to go up and up and up. What will they be in 10 years if we don't start now? I don't agree with the 10 year figure anyway since oil companies would do everything they can to bring their product to market. The last thing they want is $5/gallon oil. Know why? The oil companies know we'll find other alternatives and won't need them anymore.

I fail to see anything I said that was wrong.

During the 70's and early 80s people drove small cars. Demand growth was slowed. I'm not sure if it ever went down, but the population was also growing. We started drive large SUVs in mass when oil was cheap. This is one factor that put the strain on the refineries.

The speculation is mostly on short term contracts. No speculators are buying contracts 10 years out. You are way off base here. The one thing that would change would be a major boost to the share prices of the oil companies. They could inflate their balance sheets without even pumping oil. There are already plenty of untapped leases on federal land.

I don't want more oil. Eventually it will peak, and probably soon. If we start with efficiency changes now we'll be in better shape in the future. The US government charges for the leases on land. They need to charge more. That oil belongs to you and me - we should get money for it. I assume if you owned the land yourself you would allow drilling for free?

The federal gas tax pays for highway repairs. If it wasn't collected we would need more taxes on other things, which I'm sure you would then bitch about. The government needs money to function and we shouldn't be borrowing it.

As I said, they already hold leases that could be drilled, but aren't. When they are out of leases then I will concede that opening up more land may do some good. Keep in mind that the oil market is world wide. We might add an optimistic 3 million barrels from new land. This will go into the 87 million the world uses each day, not the 21 million the US uses. We will not see the price budge much at all, as the other oil fields are mostly declining.

I have no problem with most offshore drilling, but I don't see it helping us out. All the current talk is just politics. Just one more wedge issue.

I had about 4 miles in traffic before I did 30 miles in no traffic. I kept it at 55 mph and I was able to get 20 mpg. I bet if I drafted, I could pick up the speed a bit. I'm going to blame my crap mileage on improper alignment.

Last tank was 21.5mpg (250 hwy miles @65mph and about 175 city miles). '08 DC PreRunner with 4.0 auto. Of course, 87 octane... Not bad for as many horses as these motors put out.

I have an 08 DC LB TRD and I get a consistent 20mpg on 87 octane with every tank and that's with mixed driving around town, about 95% stop and go hardly ever including any highway driving. I haven't done a road trip to get full-tank highway gas mileage figures yet though. My secret (which isn't much of a secret at all as it applies to any vehicle) is just going easy on the acceleration. If you drive around flooring it, and especially if you do heavy-on-the-gas starts the 4.0 v6 will drink your tank quickly. Just take her easy on the starts and only floor it every now and then when it's absolutely necessary and you should get close to 20mpg every time. Similarly, I've seen people suggest keeping the RPMs below 2500 as much as possible which basically translates to doing what I've already said.

P.S. You can run about 30 more miles once the gas light comes on :D (30 is the most I've taken it to but eventually I want to do a gas light run-out test)
