Anyone get a windshield replaced under warranty?

Noticed a crack in the windshield of the new truck today when washing it. It's near the top/center and looks like it started under the molding and spread down (so far about six inches). I'm the only driver and the windshield never took any impacts that I can recall, especially in the area of the crack. And, there's no visible evidence of any damage to the molding or impacts with the glass. Of course I can't prove it, but I would have noticed it if it had been there before.

Anyone ever get a new windshield from Toyota under warranty, or should I just suck it up and call my insurance company? I've had numerous windshields replaced over the years but never this soon in ownership and never without being there when the damage or impact occurred.

    Nope, Never.

What would you tell your customer if you were a service manager? And be honest!

Then again I have never seen one break without something hitting it either, and I'm no rookie.

Nope. I even had my windshield replaced under the TSB for the whistle. 6 months later mine broke from the bottom. No impact or chip.

Dealership said yeah good luck with that.

I'd call Toyotas Customer care dept. Tell them about these similar stories and see if they can help. They've gotten me out of paying now twice for two different issues. Worth a try.

The windshield on my 12 started cracking from the inside behind where the rear veiw mirror mounts. At first the dealer told me flat out no.. I asked the service manager to please research it further because I had seen some cases of this happening before. He gave me such a hard time, but i kept pushing him to check it out. Finally he called me back and corporate toyota did not hesitate to replace.

Turns out toyota had seen the issue before. They should replace the windshield if it shows no visible chipping from the exterior of the glass.

I sell and have sold glass for a living for over a decade.

If the crack starts under the trim most likely it was installed poorly and is touching some of the steel so when it flexes it starts a crack. Either way you need to be present when they replace it so you can insure they properly clean and prime the metal before installing a new one. Otherwise in three years your a pillars will rust away and youll be screwed.

I had a crack form on my 08' within 3 months of purchase. It cracked starting at the bottom and ran horizontally below the end of the black banding then back down again. I chose not to fight Toyota because it was not in my field of vision and drove it for another 4 years until I ate a boulder that cracked both sides of the laminated glass and started leaking water into my cab.

Had a crack in mine Toyota rep. said nope. There was a tiny ding just below the wipers. Didn't really matter any insurance paid for it. The likely hood of cracked windows this year is very high due to the amount of rocks they seem to be putting on the roads when it snows. Had 2 in my 97 one in my 2011 and 3 in my VW in about 5 years.

I got a crack in mine after owning it for less than 12 hours. Took delivery of it on a friday night and it snowed. I was sitting in it the next morning with the heat blowing while reading some of the stuff in the manual and it cracked. Took it to the dealer and they said there was nothing they could do since I declined the glass replacement insurance thing.

I have had mine replaced, but I paid for a windshield warranty. We get a lot of loose rocks from trucks here in NM.

Thanks everyone for your great feedback and of course my main concerns are that it be replaced correctly, not leak and not crack on it's own (anytime soon). When I called the dealer, he offered sympathy and a vendor recommendation, which I took since he utilizes them and there shouldn't be any conflicting warranty issues later. My insurance company is okay with it and the glass vendor called me promptly to set it up, making a good impression. Having exhausted my allotted 15 minute "whining period" for all things in life that aren't fair, I'll move one and set aside the $100 I need for the deductible. Thanks again, all.
