Trying to shop for a platinum warranty for my Tacoma, paid $1250.83 last year for a 6yr/125000 mile warranty. The idiot finance guy here at my dealer wants $1500 for a 5yr/60000. Not sure if Toyota lets you buy across state lines anymore. Thanks!

I recently inquired where I bought my truck and they wanted $1800 for 7 year/ 100k miles. Mind you this is 10 months after the sale and currently have just under 10k miles. I know it's not the greatest price but given all the issues we've seen in this gen, I think it'll pay off long term.

Ya I reached back out to my guy in NJ, knowing how much profit is in these I refuse to pay more than $1250.

My dealership quoted $2500 for 7/100K. I passed. Around here dealershops really screw people on extended warranties. It's a huge money-maker for them.

Remember guys, if u have issues during the warranty period and u take the truck in for service/warranty work and the issue comes back, the dealer still has to fix it even after the warranty period is expired since it is now documented, according to my dealer... personally extended warranties r a waste of money especially if u finance the cost and it ends up costing u twice as much..most of the time if u have issues they start within the first 1-2 years of use..from my experience

Same experience but seems to be getting worse with him for other members. It's a shame because his prices were the best by far.

Usually I agree and I have never financed mine (thats silly). And I remember from my first warranty purchase and seeing what dealers pay for these, they are HUGE cash cows. I agree most will have issues in first 1-2 years. But with all the added tech like BSM, moonroof, etc. I'm willing to invest in it. Hell I paid $1200 to have the truck ceramic coated for 5 years (don't have garage or carport and the AZ sun is brutal on clear coat).

This right here. Usually if a new vehicle has quality issues they are manifested within the standard warranty period. After that is all sorted out the chances of something other than wear parts (which aren't covered by warranty) breaking is very slim until you are well past 100k. If some serious broad defect pops up there is usually a recall, which you will qualify for whether you are in warranty or not. If the money is just worth the peace of mind to you though I can understand that.

If memory serves me I think it was $1300- $1400 range for the 8 year 125k.

    I believe I payed $1800 for 10yr/100K through Toyota.

Normally I wouldnt since I can work on cars but my last work car had a DSG trans issue at 65K miles (5K out of warranty) and it was $10K to put a new trans in it. Luckily VW payed 95% of the bill with no hassle even though it was out of warranty.

Same with my VW. With all the tech in vehicles nowadays you almost have to get the extended coverage

What ever the numbers are for the 'extended warranty' subtract the factory warranty numbers, and realize that's really what you are paying for.

So if you buy 7/100 and it comes with 3/36, you're only buying 4/64.

They are huge profit makers. Or they wouldn't be selling them.

Not saying don't buy one, and definately shop it if you are.

Just saying proceed with caution, as most folks 1) never actually use it (even if they own it past the numbers) 2) sell before they use/need it 3) don't get what they think they are buying, and have big OOP costs for certain required services
