Both mine were full. Drained and filled with Amsoil Severe Gear.

My trd offroad 4x4 built mid December 2015 from Texas plant. Transfer case full, rear axle about 3 ounces low probably within minium spec. Front axle way low at least 20 ounces. Now to get the guts to check the automatic. I have the tow package so I am guessing I will find it low. Shame on Toyota I expect better than this from a new truck.

I wanted to use redline but even with 30% discount it was $28 a quart. I went with Lucas for $13 a pop.

My new DCOR 4x4 was 9 oz low front diff, 20 oz low rear diff, 24 oz low trans, dry u-joints and 1/2 the rear u bolts were under torqued. Other than that it was good.....

    ...yeah, other than that :)

Wow, what is going on with these assembly issues. No offense to any members in the industry here, but I can't say I'll ever seriously consider buying an American-made vehicle again.

Rather than reading through six pages of this... Is this more commonly an issue with the 2016's than previous years?

I am about to change the diff's/xfer case and transmission oil in my 2014, and I am going to be inventing swear words if I find any of them abnormally low.

It's perfectly normal for gear oil to break down more than normal and to have some extra fine particles when initially breaking in the ring and pinion. If you look at the instructions for initially driving with a ring and pinion from an aftermarket company they'll make a big deal about the importance of taking it easy while new and replacing the fluid for the first time after very little use. The axles are the main reason Owner's Manuals talk of a break-in period at this point.

Yes, the Mobile 1 will be fine. I just use conventional since I go off-road a lot and change the gear oil frequently; makes it a lot cheaper. I would recommend changing all of the fluid out though and getting rid of the initial wear products. If you live where it's hot or tow a lot it might be worth going to a higher weight in the rear axle. I throw 85W-140 in the rear axle of the Tundra during the Summer and switch to a lighter weight in Winter.

Just checked both of my diffs. Rear diff seemed to be fine, transfer case was definitely full, however the front diff did seem a little low. I could feel the oil with my pinky however it was a bit down there. I have 500 miles on the truck currently and all of the oils were clear as water.

My question is; is the front diff engaged at all when in 2wd? From my understanding it is not, so if mine was low and I have actually never engaged it I have nothing to worry about?

Checked my rear and it was fine. Front Diff...I cannot touch the oil...need to fill tomorrow. Did not check Trans case yet.

Hello to all. I've enjoyed reading TacomaWorld for years and finally signed up.I drove an R-22 for 16 years and can say it was by far the most reliable vehicle I ever owned.

I'm surprised to see Toyota delivering Tacoma's that are low on A/T fluid, not greased properly and are low on gear oil. This should not be happening and there is no excuse to ship a new vehicle from the factory low on any fluids.

As part of their job I would think the dealer would also check all the fluids and grease fittings before delivery to the end user. It's called customer service.

Props to Pedersen Toyota! I looked underneath to see if they checked what they said they checked before purchase. Ubolts, ujoints, transfer and diff fluids all checked and adjusted during PDI.

USE THE 75W90 If you really want to treat it put some amsoil severe gear synthetic oil in it. Your diff will love you.
