At about 100 miles it started to whine and just got louder and louder. Took it is and that's when they found it super low that led to the failure. It drove and all just extremely loud.

My trans. was 1qt. low. I bitched enough and toyota did a trany flush. Be advised when you drain trans. the computer has to be reprogamed. The dealer did not know this, and after the service my old shift problems came back like before the up date. They had to contact engineering, and were advised that after trans. service the entire truck must be reprogramed, not just the up date. So if your thinking about doing this your self, you probably will loose money by the time you have to have reprogramed after. This is new for 2016. The dealer had not seen this before.

i missed this thread for whatever reason. here's my report:

    - 2017 Pro MT, first MT Pro delivered to Texas in Dec '16. truck has been literally problem-free.
    - changed rear diff and trans fluid at 11k. at 14k now.
    - rear diff was 0.3qt low from factory.
    - oil was clear enough to look normal
    - magnet grabbed a typical amount of particulate, no worries
    - trans was a little low also, but not as much, maybe between 0.1 - 0.2 qt low.
    - trans fluid looked fine

Thought I would refresh this thread as it does not seem Toyota has committed to resolving this issue...

    Hey everyone,

I just picked up my new 2018 Tacoma TRD OFF-ROAD (Texas built) on July 21st 2018 with 7KM on it (Canadians Eh).

Here's my fluid report thus far:
    - Rear diff, LOW
    - Transfer case, OK
    - Front diff, LOWER than the rear, to the point where my pinky was shoved in to the point of almost not getting it back only just barely touched fluid...

I will be picking up some diff fluid tomorrow... I will not be putting it in 4WD until the front diff is brought back up...

The drive shaft from transfer case to rear diff DOES NOT have serviceable zerks.

The drive shaft from transfer case to front diff has zerks - was DRY as a bone, it took a good 6-7 squeezes on my grease gun to see life...

I have a Saturday appointment with the Toyota dealership for them to check the transmission. They of course "have NEVER heard of this issue" including "and I've been a Toyota service tech since the mid-eighties" --- It makes me wonder how this will go...

As for the u-bolts... They were at about 35-45ish ft\lbs I brought them up to 50-55ish.

Curious to know your thoughts as I was hoping after all of this chatter, Toyota would have sorted their **** out by now...

Is there anything else I should be checking???
