My VIN falls into the TSB so I will always be looking for water intrusion after rain and washing. Is it possible to have this TSB done before it turns into a bigger issue?

We just had the second wettest year on record here. Pretty good test.

I would not want someone tearing into the headliner if it wasn’t needed.

Where did you check your VIN at? Is there a link to the TSB anywhere?

It's like pulling your teeth to prevent cavities. Do you contemplate things like this?

Point... if it's not leaking you don't need nor will they do the TSB. You never want to break into places that don't need broken into. The headliner is one of those places.

What are you basing that on?
Dropping the rear of the headliner to access the light is pretty straightforward and no more intrusive than removing any other interior panel.

Got my notice today. I’ve had no issues so I doubt I’ll take it to the dealer. I would rather them not touch my truck.

It's not too bad, if your truck isnt leaking they just glue a little trim ring on the outside and send you on your way.

I did. I had no issues...yet. On my last service, I had them go ahead and do it. My undestanding it 's not if, it is when it starts leaking. Due to the nature of the material they used, it will deteriorate over time. Its free and covered. if you get it done and it leaks in the future, you are covered. If you don't, there is a time limit on the repair. After that, you are responsible.

Got mine today too... I have had no issues and prefer the dealership to stay away from my truck!

I am the same way about my truck but they don't touch anything on the inside, just glue this little ring around the outside.

Is it a requirement to take a topper off before they "fix" it?

I did it a couple months ago. Like others said, if you don't have an active leak they just glue a trim piece around the light on the outside. To me its piece of mind to not keep checking it after big rains or carwashes. Others that have had leaks have had their trucks out of commission for days/weeks, so a free, 30 min preventative fix seems like a good deal to me.

Yes, and time/cost to remove toppers/covers is not covered as part of the TSB.

I'm doing mine myself with the updated brake light assembly and updated gasket it comes with. The new part just arrived today so I'll have a little project this weekend. I have very little faith in dealerships. Plus I don't like the big trim ring they use nor the type of sealant they use which has a history of deteriorating over time.

I had it done when the parts first became available. From the posts here on TW, including a current thread by people who had the leak and lost the use of their truck for months, it's far better to get the recall done before it's needed. A replacement seal and bezel installed without removing large parts of the interior is far better than getting mold in the truck and waiting months for the parts to become available.

same here - got the part now just need time and warm dry weather.

edit: no leaking yet - but I noticed the passenger side of the lense-surround casing has a crack in it. Obvious oem installer over tightened the screw/nut on that side.
