Not really, mulch is pretty light weight. I have hauled many a yard in my 2017 easy-peasy at least three a year ~so 24 yards in its like. You'll be fine.

EDIT - this is one yard a pop, the little beds do not have the capacity for much more.

The 6-6 bed, I did two yards once in my fathers first Tacoma

I wouldn't do it with the powered tailgate. I saw recently where all 3G Tundras have been issued a reverse light recall for moisture getting into the harness and leading to a potential reverse light outage. When Toyota designs something out of the box like moving the reverse lights into the bumper sometimes it does not always work. I don't know who asked for reverse lights in the bumper instead of in the tailight housing. I'd be reluctant to haul any lose materials like mulch with the power tailgate option.

I did a nice haul from Home Depot of soils and fertilizer of 57 cubic feet, or about 2.1 cubic yards. 32 bags filled a few inches higher then my 5' bed so it wasn't necessary to tie down for a short trip on local roads. It was around 1,400 lbs and the truck only lowered slightly and perfectly handled itself hardly noticing much power loss either.

I'd rent a trailer if going bulk. Most commercial places seem to interpret a yard as a half-bucket on their loader, meaning it's generally going to be a much heavier pour than what you get with the bagged stuff.

This was why I went with bags, I called my local place and they advised against taking there bulk loader "yard". It's also been raining everyday so it would have been extra heavy from the moisture.

I haul horse manure compost in my 2nd gen all the time. Bed capacity is about 1.5 yd3 to the top edge of the bed (6' bed) and I go higher than that, a rounded pile where the top is about even with the top of the cab. This stuff is not very dense but I do sag a lot when it's wet.

I do bags (Scott’s Black Mulch), and make an extra trip………yes, it’s cheaper to do bulk, but be nice to your truck and old guys back

I ended up getting bulk mulch loaded into my bed. No issues hauling. If I had to do it again I would probably wait a few years when I don't care about scratches or getting my truck dirty like I do now. If I had a 2002 F150 long bed I would to it all day lol.

They gave me a phat yard, was a mound rounded up over the top of the bucket on the front loader. It was probably closer to 1.5 yards. The short bed of my truck was shorter than the loader's bucket so he went on a diagonal, but still some went on the top of the cab when he dumped it, about a 1'x1' mound. I was a little worried the paint would scratch when he pushed the stuff on the cab into the bed using his hands.

The load filled about 85% of the bed, like I said a PHAT load of mulch. Getting home was fine, I only had to drive a couple miles, hardly noticed anything other than when shifting into 2nd it seemed like the back bounced up and down a little.

The bulk mulch was a lot nicer than the bagged stuff in my opinion. I just shoveled it out of the bed into my wheelbarrow and dumped around the yard. Cleaning out the bed I had to take my shop-vac to get all the nooks and crannies, taking care around where the mulch fell into the gap between bed and tailgate. No noticeable scratches on the cab, fingers crossed.

I've done 40, 1.5 cubic foot bags at a time. I wouldn't recommend it but I've done it enough. So, a yard is fine. This time of year, the HD/Lowes does bagged ulch specials that is cheaper than bulk.

Get one of these from Harbor Frieght for $55 and get a couple pool noodles to hold it in place in the front and to also keep the mulch from going in between the bed and the cab. Worked great when we did ours recently. [IMG]
