Picked up a 2023 Taco with 39k on the clock and the bed rattled. Upon examination the front right mount was, ...incorrect, the best I can describe it. The bed, level had a 1/4" gap under the plastic boss of the bed mount. The bolt was tight on the steel spacer sleeve, allowing movement. I placed washers under the bed mount boss but then the sleeve poked up into the bed. I trimmed the sleeve the necessary amount and everything is tight and level.

Just wondering how this could have happened. The sleeve was the correct length but the bed mount boss was too short. If I would have just shortened the sleeve to bring the bed tight with the frame, the bed would have been low on the passenger side. Just weird.

Was the truck ever in a wreck? Perhaps the frame is twisted

Thanks, nothing in the VIN history. And, only the one mount. Plus, the sleeve and the mount didn't match in length. Like the plastic boss on the bed was trimmed or worn down. They are now after my fix and everything is square and tight.

Might be worth checking out. If it was done off the books at a bodyshop, it may not have been reported.

reporting to carfax doesn't mean it was done off the books. it just means they didn't report to carfax.

Again, it's square. The mount on the frame is in the correct place. The plastic boss of the bed mount was short. So, I'm thinking it's either a molding defect or someone modified it. Just wondering if mine is a one-off.

Yes I think you're right on the molding defect. You can look at the otherside to compare. The boss should take the load and the sleeve is just there so the bolt doesn't over compress the composite. I would think the sleeve would have been molded in cause nobody wants extra loose hardware for an assembly line. Everything would have been tight and lined up during assembly cause the sleeve was still fused to the composite. It just eventually broke loose after use.

Bigger washers that the sleeve could have gone through would have been easier but it's probably bigger than what the average user or hardware store will have.

    You did good
