Anyone have a good idea of how it would cost to take a stock first gen from pic 1 to pic 2?

Just looking for the exact parts or comparable parts and approximate cost.

It looks like the 2nd photo has:

    - 3”(?) lift
    - 33” tires
    - Not sure what rims those are
    - off road bumper (ebay?)
    - camper
    - running boards

What kind of bucks can I looks to spend on this set up?

    Thanks guys!

A decent 3 Inch lift including new Bilstein 5100's, OME coils and rear leaf springs will run you about $1,000 - $1,250. New tires and rims will run you about $1,500-$2,000 depending on the tire wheel combo and if you get it new or used. An ARB bumper costs about $1,000. Camper shells are best bought used and will run you more or less $500. Running boards are cheap maybe $100-200. I recommend sliders for off roading running boards are simply aesthetic and contribute nothing to structural integrity.

Thanks BartMaster, I was thinking for the wheels/tires/lift it would run at least $2k. (At least was hoping)

Any thoughts on cost of installation of a lift?

The roof tents are like $2-3,000. OME lift is $1,000 and probably another grand to install. Tires and wheels are around $1,000 unless you go ham on the wheels. Full set of armor is another $1,000. Gears are about a grand per axle and a locker in the front will be another $500.

If you stay at 32” or smaller tires you won’t have to regear IMO. Front lockers are for hardcore wheelers, not necessary for 95% of off roading.

Edit: If the first pic is yours then you don’t have a rear locker so that would be something I would consider.

Do it yourself. It’s easy. You could buy the front Struts assembled if you wanted. Take you maybe an afternoon to do it.

what would the purpose be? I thought it was an extra gas tank on that side at first.

Let's not get too desperate. Lol j/k

Check out Timmy the Toolman on YouTube - he does videos on lift installs etc that walk you through every step. He has a 4Runner, but the parts are interchangeable between 4runners and our trucks on the front suspension and engine / trans / front diffs.

    https://m.youtube.com/user/mtbtim65

You selected a good truck to model yours after. Here's my recommendation for a bumper - $507 on Jegs - usually it's $550.

    http://www.jegs.com/i/Trail-Gear/542/120191-1-KIT/10002/-1

Yeah I'd start with lift / suspension, tires, armor including those sliders that you mentioned as running boards (way more protection than running boards). Just use a regular tent or get a camper shell to sleep in while you do the other mods. @BartMaster1234 had good advice for the lift!

It would free up a bit of space underneath. You could use that extra space for a bigger spare, extra fuel tank, storage, etc. Not a legal reroute in WA (tailpipe has to put the exhaust out behind the rear wheel) but I don't think anyone would really notice or care.

OP, Are you set on new parts? Some of the parts, such as the bumper/sliders/skids pop up on Craigslist pretty regularly. If you're pinching pennies and don't mind dealing with Craigslist then that's the way I would go. That and your regional TacomaWorld buy/sell/trade.

Looks like a gas tank, but the trucks I've seen with an exhaust routed through the bedside have a tear drop plate where the exhaust comes out to protect the paint from heat and staining although you'll be lookin' crusty if you start burning oil like the fart can guys with the eBay chip tunes in the street stance crews lol.

Ditch the roof top tent. That thing alone costs 3000. Get some bilstein 5100s, AAL's and wheels. Should be 2500ish for everything.
