Purchased Jerseybuilt hub 2 years ago works great. Easy removal of bad original Toyota hub easy replacement of new JBHub on passenger side. Several months later Truck had a small sideswipe Driver's side collision and insurance replaces , wheel. tire, shock, coil spring, axle and wheel bearing. Other guys insurance paid so I thought nothing of it. Fast forward DS caliper stuck and I began GX460/470 big brake upgrade. I start on PS and remove / replace JBhub to do upgrade no problems. Now I cannot remove DS hub. loosened bolts hammered on it no movement. Is this thing pressed on? Am I spinning my wheels here and DO I need to remove the front suspension and have this thing "pressed Off" mechanically? Its almost like there is not enough room to loosen the back bolts to the spindle/ my MAC tools long 17 mm slim box end wrench fit on PS but didnt on DS ( too little space between hub). Anyone run into this before? any suggestions? I am ready to cut off the bolts and hammer the shit out of the DS hub.

My go-to was always an air chisel with a u-joint bit, hammer on a bolt ear and get it to rotate. Just need to break the corrosion bond between the bearing shell and the knuckle.

Love your SD profile pic, seen them a ton of times.....Thank you I didnt think about an air chisel. I mostly have brute force tools. I was caught up in the fact that the wrench didnt fit where it had on the Passenger side and what kind of bullshit the shop could have done to make it so difficult as compared to the older PS hub

The only thing I do is use the bolt heads retaining the hub to help out. So position the hub so the back of a wheel stud is over the top of one of the bolts and back that bolt out against the back of the wheel stud and get what movement you can. Then move to another one at the furthest corner and get what travel you can by the time you've basically got all 4 bolts backed out it should be loose enough to get out. You can also use a larger puller to assist in pushing the axle out of the hub after you start to get some movement.

Well, after 50 blows with the sledge hammer and pry bar got the DS hub off. continued prepping DS to finish lx460 brake upgrade. Of course hard brake line seized in caliper too. Get set to see if this wheel bearing will go back on the DS axle spline and it gets half way and jams up,..... literally pushing the axle and boot back and out and inch. Completely opposite of my experience with the PS bearing and brake job. I am now wondering if the axle is wrong, the bearing is wrong or they are damaged or were never replaced by ins co. I shouldnt have to hammer the bearing on something is out of whack. Ordering a new Jbuilt hub for starters

Pb blaster and keep working your way around tapping and working with a pry bar. Sometimes they are a bitch. Just gotta keep at it. Or soak it in pb blaster, then take a beer break

Edit: i read it too fast/wrong. How hard was it to get the axle out of the splines on the hub? Should have just came out with a little grunt force, but no tools.

You might have to do a shake-weight action to get it to fully seat. Then when you tighten down the bolts and put the axle nut on, it should seat the hub-axle seal

Can you rotate it, and try a different side? I know they're all the same, but maybe you didn't have it lined up

Thank you. just seems odd I had zero problem with the Passenger side getting it off and back on. PS was a jerseybuilt bearing that I replaced last year

I will try that again, rotating it. It literally pushed the boot out. I was going to force it and just bolt it up and hope that it drew everything together but it just feels off....This side was repaired by some asshole through Insurance after I got side swiped. figures that is the side that is giving me grief

So I met Kevin from Jerseybuilt hubs last night to get a new bearing. Met me at 9 at a mutual Wawa store. put new bearing on DS this morning. slid on without a hitch. trying to finish up LX460 big brake upgrade in between thunderstorms that are rolling thorough my area. The perils of a driveway mechanic. ( If my Buick Turbo T wasnt sleeping in the garage I could be done already)
