Did you use foam plumbing pipe insulation that you can get at Home Depot that wraps around it? Or noise deadening material.

I used some rubber fuel line I had in my tool box and cut it down lengthwise on one side and put it around the bent shaft part
and zip tied it real tight and up against the black part of the shifter.
Did you notice more noise after you put the Marlin in? Maybe after cutting it down the noise has less to travel.

I definitely do notice that lower growing bearings noise. I can live with it but
if it’s an easy fix for 20.00 then I will try to see if it works.

I’m loving this new marlin short shifter ALOT.

I’m going to try the foam pipe insulation and then wrap the pipe insulation and seams with sound deadening tape this weekend

I could be free if you have some fuel hose and some zip ties in your tool box. ;-)
Good luck with the foam tubing and sound deadening tape, let me know how it goes.
The shifter is awesome, isn't it? I love it more now that it is quieter. I had an LCE short shifter kit for a couple of months but didn't like the adapter that you had to put on the ball of the shifter, the Marlin feels more solid since it is a machined unit, no adapters.

It’s amazing in how it transforms the transmission from a sloppy shifter into a precise shifting unit. It took me along time to decide on this complete unit.
I have not had one gear grind or one missed shift like I used to.

will update the foam and deadening tape soon

I barked the tires a couple of times when I first got it until I got the shifting timing right with the clutch. Did you switch to MT-90 in the tranny?

Yes, been running MT-90 for years,

I went to Home Depot and got a 1/2” foam insulation section in the plumbing section for 1.89 and zip tied it on and then duct taped the foam insulation to seal everything up.

It definitely quieted down the transmission noise a bunch,
I unscrewed the top part of the stick shift and fitted the insulation section down over the lowe section

Nice job with the foam insulation, glad it worked out for you!
I noticed there was less noise right away, even with the stereo turned up, I could hear a growling bearing noise. Not anymore. The tranny whine is still there but that has been there for over 20 years.
The Marlin short shifter is a mod I don't think anyone will regret.

Was researching new shift boots when I got here and now I want to spend $360 on a part I didn't even know I wanted/needed. I wasn't sure how this compared to the URD kit.

I believe the URD kit is the same as the LCE kit, a spacer block for the shifter housing and an adapter to lengthen where the shifter end goes into the transmission. I still have one of these kits sitting in my garage. I only used it for a couple of months before I changed it. I ended up having the shifter adapter tack welded to the shifter because I did not trust the little set screws staying in place and backing out.
I think the Marlin piece is a better constructed unit.

I totally recommend it - It is singlehandedly one of the best mods I've ever done on my truck, especially after it was shortened.

That is/would be my only complaint about short shifter kits.

I don’t like how tall the shifter becomes.

Keep me/us posted about machine it down and adding the threads. I was about to go full moron and cut my shifter then rethread it with a tap/die.

But I haven’t gone there yet.

Cut it down, I did it myself and it came out good, of course go slow and have a set of calipers to measure it so you don't sand too much off. Check out post # 37 on this thread. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself then definitely take it to a machine shop to have it chopped down.

I actually like the extra height. When you move your hand from the steering wheel to the shifter it's right there.
