This!!! We have an f150 as a shop truck. Been broken down out back for 3 years now because they don't want to choke up the money for a new pcm. The pos was throwing diesel codes!!!

I got rid of my 2nd gen(01) Dodge Quad cab 2500 4x4 with the CTD and replaced it with the Tacoma as I don't tow anymore. That truck was really good to me and is still chugging along with my buddy at well over 300k miles. And they hold their value really well, sure their trannies had issues, the dashes fall apart, paint had some issues, but nobody can really say anything bad about the Cummins power plant.

I had a 1994 f150 4x4 and it was a good truck. Routine maintenance and replacement of normal wear and tear items - I put 400000 km on it. It was written off in a serious accident that wasn't my fault or else I'd probably still have it. I went back to Toyota after leaving them for rust issues in the 1980's. Mine is new so it's not rusty yet, and it's a great truck too. Never needs anything but oil changes so far. Let's face it rust is a big deal in the north, and as good as Toyotas are, up here they rust like crazy. American trucks are built of better quality steel and aluminum than Toyotas. What bothers me about it all is that Toyota knows it builds their trucks out of cheap steel and doesn't change.

Two guys in my shop have the 3.5EB. One was nonoperational for 8 weeks, and the other is still nonoperational. Both have bad turbos and Ford is having a tough time supplying them. The last time I saw the second one it was on a flatbed in our parking lot.

My dad and I had an F150 and F250 that both had over 150k on them when we sold them with no major repairs, and they towed constantly. F150 was a 1990 w/ 300 inline 6 and the F250 had the 5.4. I had a 2015 F150 for 35k with no major problems and my dad has a 2016 F150 that he loves. He gets 22 mpg with a SuperCrew 4x4 and 5.0 V8, pretty impressive. He is a conservative driver, though. Several good friends also have F150s w/ over 100k (one 178k on a 2009 5.4 that has had no engine repair other than maintenance). Parents’ neighbor is a Chevy guy through and through and he loves his 5.3 Silverados…seems to get a new one every 4-5 years. Bottom line – I think both are good trucks that obviously have bad examples, just like anything. I would strongly consider a GM 6.2 1500.

Tacomas hold their value better than about anything out there. But the domestic full size trucks hold their value quite well when compared to the overall car market. A 15 year old F150 or Silverado/Sierra w/ 150k on it will still be a $8-10k truck in my area.

true, but without the Allison to pick up the slack they wouldn't be a very tough competitor against the cummins.

For sure the Allison is the key factor. If only dodge could figure their trans out and make it as tough as the Allison

If I had to buy another truck I would probably have gotten a 4x4 tundra. I drove nothing but Chevys (no serious problems) for years and got this for the mpg. My uncles 15' tundra 4x4 is the shit, tons of power, looks awesome but it gets 15mpg. But thats only 5 mpg less than my wimpy 2.7. Gas is cheap buy whatever the hell you want.

I believe he stated at the beginning of this thread that he was tired of people asking too much for old trucks. That may be the worst advice for him. These cunts with older 5.9's and 7.3's are out of their minds with prices they ask.
