    Start by checking battery connections

Look for something loose, like where the power cables go into the fuse box or main fuses

What does “voltage all over the place” mean?

Do you have any mods, e.g. a pedal commander?

In his video, if you watch the voltmeter on the scangauge when he floors it the voltage drops from 13 something down to 7.2 and when he lets off the throttle it soars to over 18 volts.

Sounds like a short circuit. The voltage across the battery//altenator terminals will drop when the alternator/battery is working hard (delivering a lot of current).

That would also explain why the engine is sputtering. The ignition system is not getting enough power.

Many years ago the positive battery post on my 1974 Datsun pickup short circuited on my hood. The engine, lights, and everything else stopped running immediately and a spot on the hood started to glow. It was like a scene in close encounters of the third kind.

    Or a loose connection ..

The dash lights are all flashing on and off like someone is turning the truck off and on really quick

A loose battery connection could do that

The drop in voltage and the sputtering engine are what I’m focused on.

Engines need electricity to operate. Look at those dash lights, ALL of them lighting up like a Christmas tree.. just like a bulb check when you first flip the ignition on..

A short circuit would likely blow a fuse, and that portion of the system would go dark and stay dark until the fuse was replaced. It's not going to rapidly cycle on /off

A loose connection at the battery or fuse box however, could rapidly cycle on/off. And it would affect the entire truck, hence ALL the warning lights flashing in unison

If it's related to him hammering the gas, I'm wondering if the torque of the engine moving is pulling on a harness or cable. I'd be checking connections at the battery, alternator and starter, fuse box.. wherever those big red power cables go..

Is the battery hold down installed? Is the battery secure?
Does he have a aftermarket fuse panel installed near the battery?
Anyone recently done any work with lights or accessories?

I see lots of cars come in where the customer tried to put their own battery in and didn't get the cables tight. Drive over a sharp bump and the whole dashboard goes black for a quick second and then everything comes back on. Just like turning the key on and off really quick. Loose cable connection at the battery or fuse box causing an intermittent open circuit for the entire electrical system

How long has this been going on? Was something done to the electrical system lately? Is the battery light on?

I tend to agree about a loose or corroded connection.

Is the battery ground cable tight on both ends, the negative battery terminal and to the body?

Not sure where it is or if there are any, but also check the engine ground straps also.

    All the things!
My immediate thought was the ground connection to the body. Based on the scan gage, I bet there are other more mods... and either stacked leads or a loose bolt is fouling it all up.

Any modifications to the electrical system?
Definitely go there, after checking for loose or damaged wires.

Not sure what testing was done, but that looks like a bad voltage regulator in the alternator.
