Bought a brand new 2018 Limited 4x4 and when I got home and started cleaning it I discovered a small crack in the windshield that looks like its inside the windshield and not caused by impact. Took it to a glass place and they said the same thing. Toyota dealership says it has been a common thing and can’t gurantee it wont get worse.... I’m pissed! 400 miles and they gotta jerk this windshield out or I can chose to ride around watching to see if it gets bigger!? Thats BS! If its a common problem they should send out a recall. Between the shutter and hunting for gears in the trans and now this I think I made a bad decision. Nothing like my 2nd generation tacomas!
Oh, and its no way to get to it from the inside because its behind the headliner !

I’ve heard quite a bit of people having bad luck with their windshields, make the dealer fix it

Damn, just the thought of pulling out a windshield in a new truck☹️. Always more damage, leaking or other crap that can come from that. Service guy says “toyota rep” has to make the call. My insurance will not cover it because it didnt come from an impact.

Uh oh I have very similar marks in the same exact area on my rig. Noticed when I washed it about a month ago. I haven’t looked since then. I figured it was something with the black border and not the glass itself. Guess I’ll look a bit closer in the morning.

Yeah catch it before it turns into something that they will swear came from a rock. As you can see in the pic, I was at a tint/windshield repair place and they wouldnt put a tint visor on because of the fear they may make it bigger when applying heat. I started a case with Toyota, so if yours is doing the same thing call the corporation and start one too.

I'm confused...What evidence or facts does the insurer have that the damage to the windshield wasn't a direct result of an impact? Did you provide them with the evidence to deny the claim? Why isn't the dealer stepping up in good faith being you just bought it with 400 miles...

Most likely it will at some point grow and when it does the crack will creep across the windshield at an alarming rate, or possibly a sudden, instantaneous CRACKKK! Its a bummer but I'd get it fixed as soon as possible cause you can bet it will fail at the most inconvenient time.

This one happened a year and a half ago, when the truck was less than 2 weeks old. It was just a chip, then a few days later it had spread to what you see here. Apparently it was “overlooked” during my the state inspection. Just like the window tint was “overlooked” during the state inspection.

Didn’t expand any. Noticed it in the first 2000 miles. Fairly certain it had been there since day one.

Dealership service writer wrote it off at first, but his manager insisted on having it replaced under warranty.

And just to clarify: I was referring to the bubble on the top of the windshield like the OP had.

Try and have the dealer do it. They will most likely have to recalibrate the safety eye in the mirror. Easier to have it done in one place.
